The word has come down from above that they need to be replaced. Any suggestions? The ones we have now are smoke only and don’t have battery back up. As always I’m cheap but don’t think this is an area to be stingy.

I just installed some in a house I’m doing some work at. I put a smoke/co2 detector on each floor. Then I put a smoke detector in each bedroom and in the hall out side the bedrooms. I don’t remember the brand name but the selection at Lowe’s and Home Depot was limited and they were expensive. The smoke detectors had 10 year batteries in them. You can’t change them, you just get new ones after 10 years.

If you prefer function over fashion I suggest you use photoelectric smoke detectors as they are far more responsive than the ionization type.. The difference can be a life saver!

I saw some pretty slick WiFi ones at Home Depot. They notify your phone no matter where you are and deafen anybody around.
