You ever get up with Glen you should run his 460. It was an exceptional one compared to the others I had at the same time.
Glen is not too far away one these days we will let them go at it. I am looking forward to running on of yours.
I’m basing my statement on what loggers have said about the 460/461 ... I suppose it’s subjective but this is what I am told by guys that run em 8 hrs day ... if you were to buy 10 460s and 10 461s - I “wood” reckon there “wood” be 1 or 2 of each lot that were quicker ; 1 or 2 turds and the rest falling in the middle ... same with 2-stroke quads ; dirt bikes etc ... the design of the 461 IS different with the crank stuffer and the transfers
I'll just go Husky if when I'm in the market for another 460/461 all that is available is a short bar model. Should call it a Short Bus model !! . 462 Short Bus !!
Ya gotta get away from this 8 hours a day thing . Timber fallers work 6 to 7 hours a day. 6 days a week. Trigger time ! Now Loggers work more hours. But loggin is a lot safer than falling timber. Loggin usually entails at least some flat azz during their day. Unless they are a highball riggin crew or workin under the bird.
While we do take down trees ; the majority of the work “wood” be considered firewood processing ... mostly log form cut/split/ stacked or cut/split and thrown into a pile with occasional take-downs and wind-blown trees ; predominant species is ash as the emerald ash borer has decimated the local stock ... rest assured ... both the saws and the men get a good workout on a 20+ cord job ... no gym membership needed here !!! Lol
One of the main reasons I mess with firewood is for the exercise. I get my heart rate up more running the splitter(which I move fast) than when I do cardio.
That right there is cold!!! Coldest I've ever experienced was -25°F and I was field dressing a deer. Set my knife down on my tailgate for about 30 seconds and it froze to the tailgate.
Yup , especially if you own a kinetic splitter with one man on the lever and the other 2 feeding it ... if the machine never thirsts for wood the production is unbelievable ! I actually ordered the log-hauler from log0x to ease the strain on my helps back !
They are quick for sure ! Mine has a 3sec cycle time so 15/pulls a minute is possible working safely (if it was automated 20) 8-10” rounds where 1 pull gives 2 splits — we can fill a 8ft pickup bed with the quickness !
It does not take long to make a truck load. The guy I get logs from said he does not have anymore ash to cut. It is all going to be oak, mostly tops. I was thinking about it today. Since it is going to be tops it should be smaller stuff so it should be some fast splitting stuff.
I have an electric Kinetic. Little 7 ton . It's the first splitter I ever bought . I haven't actually timed it. But it's Fast ! And yes, it works my butt off. I can't keep up with it. I need an out feed conveyor. In the future I would like a bigger kinetic. As much for the longer throw as for more power.
