Interesting to see this. I just dropped in because a thread that posted in years ago got a reply. We sold the drafty old barn in NY and moved to Vegas October, 2016. There are about 20 nights a year I wish I had my Fireview out here, but gas is cheap and central heat sure is easy. I bet I could season Red Oak in 9 months out here though.

You should Install one and burn in it on the hottest days just to see what people say...

They surely would have no ordinances against massive firewood hoards in Vegas...you could go nuts!

Was it show biz that brought you out there? Just curious. (Don't answer if too personal)

Haven't heard from you in fa'evah! Glad you're still alive.
Seriously, could you even fathom the amount of work you'd have to put in to scrounge a few cord out there?

I'm thinking it wouldn't be that hard. There are trees out here and I see tree services at work often. I'm sure that they would be happy not to have to pay to dispose of the wood just as they are every where else. The only question would be the species. I have also seen wood dumped in the desert just outside town more than once.
Our house has a gas fireplace with a brick firebox and what looks like a real chimney. When I get around to it, I'd like to have a sweep come out and determine if I can burn wood instead of gas in it. The gas is just so cheesy looking and makes so little heat. Plus there's the wooshing sound of the gas. There's nothing like the real thing.

Cool, hook up a tree service and good to go. It'd be fun freaking out the neighbors with the first few start up fires.
