I hate taxes more than the average person I think...but I feel the need to set the record straight here.

Nobody earns just enough to "put them into the next tax bracket". Its tiered, so as you get into the next bracket only income over that amount is taxed at that amount. For example (and I dont know if these are exact numbers, but bear with me).

If the brackets are as follows:

    - up to $40k pays 0%
    - $40-$90k pays 15%
    - $90k-$140k pays 25%

If you make say $95,000 you arent paying 25% on your entire $95,000 because you juuuust tapped into that bracket.

You would pay 0% on your first $40k, 15% on your $40-90k, then 25% of the remaining $5,000.

Again, Im not saying that makes it any better....I strongly believe taxing income at all is incredibly immoral and should never be acceptable to the people of this country. Essentially the government is forcing you to work for them against your will...I realize its a bit of a stretch to say its a form of "slavery", however it really can be looked at like that. They're taking a portion of my time, sweat, blood, skills, etc against my will.

However whenever I see someone say they make just enough to move into the next tax bracket and that they're actually taking home less because of it I feel the need to correct them on that.

We dump into an investment HSA free money!!! Zero tax... We dump into 401K and get employer matches again free money. Essentially the HSA and 401K's lower our tax bracket and allows another form of saving for the future tax free.

This year has me beyond aggravated. I am not overly happy that even with itemizing we got hammered! I don't mean small itemizing just about everything I do for work is deductible. That got us above water but barely.... :picard: How the heck can she owe that much! Not a small amount at all....... I am waiting to file until its sorted out!

I think something is screwed up on her W2 this year and am contacting her employer the number do not add up at all....

    Bla just venting.:hair::hair::hair:

Well, started the morning off getting a fire going. Then I went outside and split up some more kindling. And now here I am until I go into work in a few minutes.

For clarification, you are citing numbers for married, not singles.

And I don't recall anyone saying they took home less - just put in more time for little gain.

Hopefully it was an error and with correction the numbers will add up more in your favor

I am ashamed to admit I forgot to hook the trickle charger up to the truck in our garage and it sat for almost a month. The battery died and it had to be jumped today.

Took the old beast to Home Depot and back to stretch a bit seeing as it’s 55F today and no snow left then back in the garage.

Also forgot the charger again so that’s tomorrow mornings coffee wake up chore.

We got 1.5 trailer loads up the house from yesterday and I dismissed the boys. Then went scouting and came across this huge Ash recently a blow down. It's going to be a little tough to get to. I'm afraid it's going to be a lot of punk. I think I'll poke at with the 562 tomorrow and make the decision after that. I hope it's still salvageable. It's a big one.
That little maple is going to be a keeper.
