Snows on all four corners when I was commuting long distances. Never did stud them, though in retrospect I probably should have, with only ten miles of that 65 mile drive being highway. I can say I've seen some incredibly stupid acts of driving in those years, and without a great set of snow tires there were several times when I would've been in a hotel over night or not gotten to work. Spent a lot of time pulling over to make sure people were ok, vehicle still running for heat, help on the way etc.

One split in the stove at the moment, and it's still 72 IAT with 13 OAT.
I might add a couple more splits to get things moving along before the bedtime load.

About 0 here this morning. A slight breeze makes it feel colder. They say the real feel is -8. I have the boiler loaded with an Ash and Maple mix. We are starting to come into the Maple stash. Yeah!

Back to elm, eh? You must have a ton!
Was it dead and dry when you got it, or still wet? I'm burning the long-dead stuff mixed into my stacks, but I split some wet this fall. Does it take two years to dry once split?

I had a cord and a half or so from a couple of trees, dead standing with the bark still on. It's about 18 months seasoned and burns well. I get a fairly good amount, I'm saving my 3 yr seasoned Oak, and 2 yr Hard Maple for cold weather. I like it and will take all I can get. Especially since I have my splitter.

I've got the opposite story, when my daughter in law was living with us, she opened the fridge door in a July heat wave to get something. She then went to work, 5 hours later my son came home to find the door open.:hair: We threw away everything except the ketchup, mustard, and soy sauce. :picard::makeitrain"

Was 23 this morning, gonna' see low 40's later.
Had some sleet/freezing rain last couple days which is clearing up, school house closed yesterday, delayed today, county roads are a mess.
Ground is muddy, too wet to get into the woodlots, good weather for hanging out in the garage.
Loaded some hedge and ash in the owb last nite, prolly feed some 1/2 junk mystery wood from the river bottoms today.

Gloomy, snowy, gusty day happening here. Apparently there's a snowfall warning in effect, so a little bit of the white stuff is on the way. Temp is -15 C feels -24 C, or 6 F feels -12 F. Poplar in the reactor.

Loaded the ole Hardy H4 up at 4:30 this morning. Snow soaked maple, red oak, locust and a little ash. 21 degrees on my truck thermometer. The OWB just eats anything I put in it.
