almost 60 here all week. Lows in the 20's but you can do one small fire at 5pm and it will carry the house for 15 hours. Kinda like shoulder season but not really lol
Woke to 34*f with rain up to 44*f now still raining half a load of Hard Maple on the OWB yesterday at 4pm. Good day to stay in and maintain saws.
It’s taking longer to warm up here than the guessers said it would. Some schools closed and some delayed two hours because of the ice. My kids are thrilled. Out early yesterday and closed today. About 33 here now and should be 44 by this afternoon. Pine in the boiler.
So how much fell there? I don't think there was as much as forecast at least in most places. Ha! We don't have to shovel ours!
Got rid of the bulk of our snow and ice. Good thing as yesterday I was considering putting the bucket on the tractor and then see if I could get a scoop or three of sand to spread in the driveway. Fortunately 99% of it is gone. Chilly this morning with the cold wind and falling temperatures. Just read too where the weather guessers seem to think the extreme cold will return in February. Let us hope they are wrong again.
Heavy rain, wind and warm showed up here. 53ºF outside Burned the last chunks of pine I had inside this morning, checked the weather forecast and that will probably be the only fire here today. After this storm goes by we get three days of cold so maybe tonight maybe tomorrow morning for restart.
Quite mild weather today considering what time of year it is. Sitting at -9 C feels -15 C, or 16 F feels 6 F. Poplar chugging away same as always.
Tonight should be down to 7. That'll be fun. I should go out and shovel the inch of snow we got. Thank goodness (or something) we didn't get the 4-8 that was forecast. Most of that came down as rain. If I shovel that little bit, then when it gets warm again, maybe the ice underneath will melt a bit quicker.
No more than 7", but man...was that stuff heavy! Must've pulled all those heavy metals out of the atmosphere before it landed!!!!
Quite a stir over this earthquake. Lots of people up and down the coast were going to higher ground. Obviously we are all real glad this earthquake wasnt the kind that makes a tsunami.
Weather is like a roller coaster here. 60 degrees yesterday....sitting at 40 now. Light fire with some hard maple will warm things right up
Temp dropped to a frigid 50ºF already so cleaned out the ashes and: even cleaned the window. That's a pine fire, (except for one split of oak, red ) will probably load it up later with red oak.
Just came in from loading the OWB same as last night half a load of Maple still 44* here windy and raining hard feels like the temps are dropping
Pine and red maple chugging along. 40s today, but down to 24 tonight. Shame all that rain we got cleaned the road salt away. On the bright side, I'll be working ten miles away instead of 65, so that's nice.
32* and white ash has been heating the house. I wish te temps would drop enough to freeze the ground again, but I don't think that's going to happen until next week. The good thing is we will be saving some wood after burning three cords since November.
