I am looking for someone to modify a brand new MS261 for me.

I hear that porting isnt really necessary on these and that there are a few ways to get great gains without putting a burr to a port.

I'd love to hear suggestions and see pictures of your work on these saws, along the lines of:

    1. Do you cut squish ...... pics please
    2. Do you cut the base ....... pics please
    3. Do you use a base gasket ....... pics please
    4. Muffler mod ......... pics please
    5. Chain suggestions and modifications ......... pics please

I'm told by Fabz that his modified MS261 saws are just what I'm looking for

Please feel free to post pictures of your work, your equipment, your videos of before and after ........... anything and everything that will help me decide who to send this brand new MS261 to so that I can have it modified to really chew some wood.

Anyone can post pictures and suggestions here, please feel free to hit me with whatever you think is a worthwhile mod to the MS261, all I ask is that you have the pictures of you working on them and pictures of your work to go along with your suggestions.

I will discuss the financials via PM, not in this thread. This thread is intended for purely narrowing down my choice for who will modify my brandy new MS261

    Thanks all !!!!!!!

This saw has a decked cylinder ; muffler mod and runs a 16” with ps 63 sqr/sqr chain ... your MS 261c will sound / cut just like this one ... please note the saw is cutting RED OAK not balsa wood like some competitors

Is your MS261 M-tronic or manual adjust carb? Do you feel comfortable tuning a manual carb? If it is M-tronic (CM) then you can easily open up the muffler and it will reset the tune automatically. That's basically a free, 10-minute to 1 hr upgrade right there depending on how fancy you want to get with it. A lot of people also swear by the Stihl Picco chain on smaller saws rather than the standard "Rapid" RS/RM, but I don't have any experience first hand. Right now I'm running 3/8th RS/RM on my 261,361 and 461 just to K.I.S.S. I do have some experience with square-filed chain and it is definitely an improvement, but takes some learning to file. If you wan to go the whole 9 yds, then send it off to Tree Monkey Scott Kunz for a woods port. He did my MS361 and it is amazing.
Of course there are others who do good port work , but Scott is my favorite right now. I'm certainly no expert, but I do own a couple additional saws ported by other reputable builders. These are my opinions and observations. Your mileage may vary.

Here’s a 362c with a buckshot muffler and a Razer Chain sqr/sqr ... this is the model that comes after the 361 and does feature the mtronic carb ... 9” silver maple ... NO PORT - WORK on this saw !

Do you always set-up/run the life-pro type Chains on the 261???

Do you feel it’s more durable/last longer than the .325???

My 241c Cat; 241c “mighty mite” and 261c use 3/8 picco ps63 ; I do firewood and firewood Processing so I’m primarily concerned with more wood in less time ... I’ve found thru trial and error the 3/8 picco is the quickest on the aforementioned saws ... a 3/8 .050 may be more durable but not a .325 imho ... I’ve cut over 7 face on 1 chain so I’m happy with that ! Whole key is to watch your chips ... I usually bring a few loops of chain with ... when the chain just starts to dull I stop , drop and swap over a freshly sharpened chain and rinse and repeat ... I cycle 3 chains with each saw so the chains and rims wear evenly ... if you swap over just when the chain starts to dull ... it only takes a light grind to bring it back to Razer sharpness !

I think he's asking for pics of your work, not random videos. Do you have before and after videos? That might be a little better.

    This is an ms261

Sorry. Don't know what a radiused blind is. I have a few machinist friends I could ask. But I'm not sure it pertains to what the op was asking for

I couldn't tell you if his videos contain any pertinent info or not. I've only ever been able to watch his videos long enough to hear him say "Well hello there folks today were gonna be......".

That's where I flip the channel

Time for me to jump in here and clarify .............
huskihl is 100% correct here, and thank you for posting pictures of the work that you did/do to the MS261, just like I asked.
    Beautifull machine work too !!!

Fabz , I am estatic about those videos you did show, looks good, however I did ask for pictures of the work you do on them, and asked for a few specific questions to be answered in my first post please.

I really want to see exactely what I asked for so I can make my decision.

Please feel free to post pictures of you doing the work to the various parts of the MS261 that you "tweak" to get these gains. Muffler mods, cylinder pictures of how you cut the base, squish, do you run a base gasket ...... etc

(My bad .... Fabz ... you say "decking" is the proper term, so pictures of you decking the cylinder please)

Redfin , NICE muffler mod !!!
    Care to elaborate ?
Was there/is there any baffles inside that can ?
If there is/was, how did you modify or remove it ?

I love saw videos, so thanks for them Fabz, but this thread isnt about just the "after" ....... its the before, during, and after modifications that is being sought out Sir.
