I've mostly been cutting from a mill's stump pile about a half hour away, $20/pickup. Found a local dude, clearing his land...mostly ash and maple, $25/bedload. It's gorgeous.

That is nicely sized wood too.

The comment above (bigger truck) reminds me of a story that happened here one time. A ship back in the day had foundered on the rocks just off shore and wanting to save the ships cargo, had the local farmers help offload it onto shore before the ship broke up. Part of the cargo was refined sugar, which in those days had a lot of value! The deal was, for working on the removal of cargo, they could get a lunch box full of sugar per man. The story goes, the ships crew noticed with every passing day, the locals lunch boxes grew to amazing proportions!

    So.........

Show up with a pulp truck! (Joking)

In my defense, as per his ad on FB, it was $30 for a full size. When I showed up to introduce myself and showed him the small bed, he said $25. So, I'm not paying the same for less. Also, he's basically given me free reign to pop over and cut. I just have to let him know. That said, I have a buddy with a 250 and will probably get him involved soon. :)

I might suggest renting a dump trailer for a day!! You could whack that pile up in a day maybe two and be done. If your lucky the landowner May find more you also.

There is more. The limiting factor is not that stack, it's how much I can afford, regardless of the investment. Dump trailer is $50, which is worth it, but I don't have one so, would involve bringing other people in. Dude with the F250 would just help for the joy of cutting + beer. Probably combine forces or something.

Sorry, you said renting. I could probably do that but, dude is a few miles away. A few combined runs with the 250 would be great and he can cut.

All about it. Met him yesterday since he's a mile from work. Jumped on it. Back at it on Monday. Only my Colorado but I want to get what I can before anyone else starts showing up. I'll work on the 250 for next weekend.

    Nice find!

Heard a story about a charcoal factory where they would pay by the pickup bed for mesquite wood. The deal was $20 a bed load. The locals would fill their trucks Thursday night then line up at the factory after work Friday evening, get their $20, and head in to town to spend it at the bar. When the demand for mesquite went up, they started offering $25/bed thinking it would inspire more to bring them wood. Instead the same group of guys kept showing up with about 20% less wood. Just wanted that $20 for a few drinks with their buddies at the end of the week.

Nice score, much cheaper than buying cordwood and paying the oil man.

Wish I could find something like that around here! There hasn't been anything local lately.

I haven't seen much of anything on the limited roads I travel in town. I'll have to get out and look some more.
