Man, you guys have so many choices of pellets, it boggles the mind. My pellet shopping is so much easier. Basically pick up a DF pellet at the best price.
Yes I did , Cubex , North Country and the Energex blend .Fireplaces Store, MA, RI, Pellet Wood Stoves, Fireplace Inserts, Swing Sets, Sheds, Gas Grills
If I didn't know better I would almost say they are rebagged LaCrete ! Nearly all the same characteristics color, pellet quality, smell and will know tomorrow if they perform the same regarding heat and ash output. All indications are yes yes and then TT says so likely to be a definite contender. Thanks TT for the mention of them as I could have got LaCrete for the same price but after your response a while ago I decided to give them a shot. Best thing is they are only 8-10 minute drive from the house ! In addition I just did the math again doh they were under $280 a ton $335 for a 60 bags.
Might not get a lot of sympathy from most of us on the east coast... $369 here is about as low as it gets.. Dan
Here's some interesting info . I really think Energex is stepping up it's game Energex - One Company, Many Pellets. Making North America's Best Wood Pellet Fuel for Over 20 Years.
Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying though. Dan, if you had a choice to experiment with different brands or buy DFs consistently below $230 a ton, would you bother playing around with the others?
Enjoy - err, wait, I have those in the P61a right now since it is warm-ish out. I think the word to use is actually "endure"
Don't get your hopes up Russell. They advertised a 100% softwood product a couple seasons ago too, but the product never saw the light of day. There was even a special "Fireside Platinum 100% Softwood" version of it advertised at Home Depot for a while. Chances are if it does come to be this time, we might not see any around here.
Ok so here's the carbon buildup with North Idaho pellets. Not quite as bad as Purcells but not all that better to get too excited. Carbon deposits on the left and right sides of burn pot.
Good News IHP was looking for some today where i bought the NC but as Scott has mentioned they are not yet producing Softies, where did you acquire yours if I may ask ? The dealer I saw today said when the are delivered they are gone the same day 22 tons he sells them for $260 a ton. He himself only toast softies and he said he likes them a lot but guessing he only tried them as he usually toast LaCrete's.
They have them for sale in Central MA @ $289 a ton so it is a reality as they are advertised on a dealers website. Mayhap Ill have to take a ride out there and see for myself and grab a few bags, won't be till next weekend as the Mrs. would probably stab me in my sleep if I went tomorrow and bought some more pellets and do not really have the time tomorrow. Hmmm don't sleep much anyways, would probably be awake as the wife raises the knife over my head for the plunge
Around here, getting any stuff for $230 is pretty tough... I know some of our stuff has gone up just recently.. Including the DF's..... I don't see much going down.. But no.. of course not.. why bother looking for bargains, if you get the high test for 230.. What is your cheapest DF's out there now? Dan
Well we have a dreaded sales tax at 9% -- but stay with me as I can tell you what we don't have in tax -- but that's not the point. I can regularly get a ton of DF pellets for somewhere between $210 or $220 pretax throughout the year. But at certain times throughout the year, I can get them for $199. I was able to get them for $177 pretax once this year because my wife happened to be in a place where they had $20 off a ton and a special sale of 10% off for 4 hours. Total luck but we took advantage of it. So if you are patient and fishing -- you can find a ton of 100% DF pellets like Olympus or Bear Mountain typically anywhere between $210 and $230 post tax. In my world, I would be happy with anything under $250 a ton. But the fact that I can get them for $210 a ton makes me extremely happy. I'm literally waiting for the offseason sales now. I'll buy all 4 tons in one shot.
For me I'd still try as many different brands as I could get my hands on , it's really a hobby for me . This way I know how all the different flavors burn , sometimes you may not be able to get the brand that you like , or you run across a killer deal on a brand you never burned , but you don't pull the trigger because you don't know when you should have . It's like trying different micro brews , buy variety packs and experiment . Some of this stuff is $40 + for a case and you would hate to buy one and 1/2 way through the 1st bottle it's like WTF is this , it's like trying to swallow walnuts whole with the shell on now you got 23 more to go
