yesterday I got too a bag of hamers in the pile so threw them in but now I'm back to AWF hardwoods until I get to something else in the pile.I got AWF hardwoods and softwoods, natures own, green team, ironstones, big heat, kingdoms,TSC, hamers, greenways and who knows what else in that pile
Yes I agree they do remind me of FSU of the pass , usually burn hot and fast . The lastest batch of FSU resemble Northern Warmth purely pine and have a good sawdust smell .
Ok, so here are my review on North Idaho pellets. This is the same company that makes North Idaho Energy Logs... which are some of the best -- if not the best -- manufactured logs on the market. I burned a full 40 pound bag in my Harman 52i so getting temperature readings is difficult. So I go by my experience based on other DF pellets I've burned. It's not too scientific and it's probably not extremely accurate but I hope it gives you an idea of the heat. First, I'm burning these NI pellets on the heals of Purcell pellets. Both pellets are blends and not full 100% DFs. The former is their higher end (more expensive brand) and the latter is there 'cheaper' pellet. Bottom line is I would buy a ton of Purcells before North Idaho pellets simply because of the cost difference and I saw/experienced no significant gains for the extra cash. The first thing both my wife and I noted is the fines. North Idaho has significantly more fines that Purcells. I'm still kinda flabbergasted and creeped out a bit about the lack of fines in the Purcell bags. I would say the amount of NI fines are pretty equivalent to most other high end pellets. Purcells are just freakish -- or at least the batch I bought was. After burning a full bag here are the residue results: That's a higher output than the Purcells. 1.45 vs 1.13 ounces. I always burn on automatic mode so I can't tell you how long the burn lengths are. I don't feel like fussing with manual temperature settings and babying it as we've hot warmer than normal temps this last week. But it's fair to say they both burn similar and have similar heat output. So based on lower fines, lower ash, similar heat, and similar burn times, I recommend the Purcell's over the North Idaho pellet. They both put out quality heat and even though I don't have a lot to compare to other brands other than DF burns -- these are very respectable. I don't think they burn as hot as Bear Mountains or Olympus but not by much. The only advantage I can think of that NI has over the Purcell is I believe the latter burns a bit more dirtier than NI, but man, that has zero impact on me. Maybe have to wipe my glass a little more but I honestly don't even know about that. I'll take a photo of the stove's carbon deposits after this last bag has burned and post later. Bottom line: These are quality pellets and their mess levels are respectable. I recommend them but as noted, I think you can find equal pellet quality at a greater value. If you burn wood, I do highly, highly recommend their energy logs though.
Just tore open my first bag of spruce pointes. That means i hit 2.6 tons to date on the year. 1.2 of vandies and 1.2 north country 5 bags of tsc bagged liggies and bringing up the rear 5 bags of oakie golds. I am starting to feel like i am getting low, i mean that bag of sprucies puts me under 6 tons.
You better score more, you just never know...I didn't need it but went and got it....also got sort of boned, he never called us to go back and get the rest.
Really well! The ash is fairly low. Not quite Vermont low, but noticeably lower than the regular MWP. Only issue, which surprises me, is that they funnel badly in the hopper.
I am for sure.. my stash in the basement is now at about 2-1/2. Definitely went through more than the same time last year.. Dan
Might be, only issue is snow and muddy area leading to atorage. But i do have my eyes open. The sp from fireplace showcase are pretty nice, very minimal fines which is new.
I just reloaded with some chows and a CL score so I've replaced all that I roasted so far this season . I'm good for a few weeks , but always on the look out for more .
Dropping into low 40s now. Seems our 2 week warm spell has closed. I suspect we'll have another cold snap this winter but nothing like you guys get. We have been burning in our woodstove more of late and that's keeping our pellet consumption down.
LaCrete in the P68 back to room temp warming up nicely North Country on deck just grabbed a metric ton @$285 a ton. Northern Max in the P43 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just picked up a quick reload of 15 bags of Energex blend interested in seeing if the pellets are the same as FSU or better quality coming from a pellet house .
