Thanks for the info Matt, this is exactly what I’m facing now with my current stove. I really do think the IS is going to make a difference on my temps and load cycles.

My fans are Broan 510 wall fans that blow from the first floor to the second from the top of a pitched ceiling. I just looked them up and they are actually rated as 380 cfm.

I posted this elsewhere, but the fans are hidden up in this soffet. They pull hot air into the soffet through a slit by the bricks and then blow it into the lower corner of two bedrooms above.

Great- the very best of luck with it and I hope you like it as much as you think you are going to like it :) What I mean by that I that I hope we did not build the stove up to be something 'magical'.... this is not that stove that you put one split into and it burns all winter, running so hot it heats your neighbor's houses. That is the 'other' brand.....

Seriously though, it IS a nice stove and the folks at Woodstock are excellent, as you have already started to find out during the first phone call I suspect. Cat. stoves may take a bit of time to learn how to run most efficiently in your house, with your firewood and especially, your chimney but the rewards are clean, long and very efficient burns.

I do not know if you know this or not but on the I.S., you have to have the ash pan installed when you buy the stove as it cannot be added at a later time. So if you think you even <may> want one, order the stove that way or you will not have the possibility in the future. Other than that, you can pretty much change whatever you want later on, including all the trim colors if you want to do so.

Let us know when you get it and toss us a couple of photos if you will- we list 'stove porn'. :)

Yes, I would suggest the ash pan, soapstone liner and the soapstone side panels. The soapstone for heat mass and the ash pan for ease of use.

I will definitely be ordering it with the ash pan. My quad has a very similar ash pan and I love it!

I never spend other people's money but I do want to throw out a thought: if you get an extra ash pan with the stove, you will always have an empty one handy to swap out the full one, even when the stove is running hard. And if the ash pan is hot and has some embers in it, you can cover it and leave it near the stove until it fully cools and then deal with it rather than having to handle a red- hot ash pan and being in a hurry to get it back into a running stove. I have done this with all my woodstoves and find it a great asset for just a few dollars- Woodstock will sell you one for a reasonable price. Again, not to dip into your wallet but perhaps a thought to consider....

Agreed, I have two as well. One small issue though. When the ash pan is hot, and the lid cold, it is a tight fit and does not slide on easily.

I like the two ash pan idea but I've found that careful planning helps when I dump the pan.

I position the ash bucket outside the door.

I lock the door to outside open. Storm door. Leave the interior door open.

Go to stove and slide out the ash tray.. If it's windy I use the cover.

Walk straight outside and dump it. Come back in and reinsert and lock ash tray.

Close exterior doors and move bucket back to the side of the house.

If it was a longer trip outside I might go with 2 ash pans..for instance a stove in the basement.

I found dumping the ashes earlier is better than filling the tray. They seem to scrape off the top of the tray and fall onto the floor of the ash tray box if it's too full. The center seems to fill the quickest. Also a little shake of the pan before removal helps to settle the ashes into the tray.

I’d consider the extra ash pan but I have a similar setup as Babaganoosh where my sliding door to my outside patio is right next to the stove. I store my ash bucket outside and it’s only a couple steps to get outside, empty it, and then reinstall it in the stove. I am interested in the side shelves if any of you guys have them?

Side shelves? I have the tool set which included a shelf with hooks for the tools. If that is what you are talking about, we are glad we got ours. The tools are sturdy and it is nice having them right there.

I was actually hoping someone would have a pic or some input on the PG-29 side shelf.

Got a pair of gaskets and some new screws to re- gasket both pieces of glass on the door. Last time I tried that, it did not go well at all; running the gasket on the edge of the glass and then pushing the edges over onto the face of the glass did not work very well. I might try putting one edge on one face of the glass, then pulling the other edge over to the other side. There must be some kind of trick or incantation the folks as Woodstock do to do such a neat job of this.... When you see a new piece of glass, it looks perfect with the gasket stretched all around, very evenly and flat. When I do it it looks, well, not like when Woodstock does it. :picard: Kind of important too 'cause when the gasket slides off the edge of the glass, the glass retainer gets loose and then the door gasket gets loose. So I would like it to come out better this time.

The stove in the Woodstock showroom now has that side shelf on it. Give them a call and ask them to take a picture for you.

I've seen it its about 40 dollars and appears to be stainless was going to pick it up but needed to measure stove to wall, as its a corner installation. Looks like it would dry towels superbly.

My wife dries towels, sweaters and other things on a drying rack 5+ feet away from the stove. Between heat from the stove, air movement from the ceiling fan, and the ultra low humidity levels in our leaky house on cold days, stuff dries FAST!

I got a quote for $45 + $20 shipping to Minnesota, for the side shelf. Seems like a lot, but I think it would be handy for hanging the ash shovel, etc.

Well I’m to the point of approving our stove and we can’t decide on color. Anyone have pics of color combinations of charcoal and Black IS? We are thinking a charcoal stove with black fenders and door and black top burners and charcoal side medallions. :hair:
