I found a CL ad today for free firewood. I called the guy and he said someone came out to get it last night, but refused it because it wasn't oak and drove off. The homeowner said he told him it was some kind of maple and was basically trash wood. So on my way thinking about some free maple, I pulled up and saw the mystery wood. My eyes lit up and I said holy cow that's mulberry. All bucked at 16-18 inches and the rounds were at most 22 inches diameter. It took me 15 minutes to load and I was out of there. 0119181610_HDR.jpg 0119181611.jpg 0119181638.jpg

Wait, so there are people out there who think maple doesn’t burn? I took down a big crapy silver maple that was threatening the house years ago and after seasoning, I burned it and nothing else for a long stretch. It turns out, when you apply a flame, it burns and puts out a lot of heat. Shocking I know.

I have a bud that “only “ heats with red oak. Last year when he ran out I brought him a pick up of mixed hard woods. It all burned and kept him warm. Now he is less picky.

Nice load you have there. It is hard to believe that the other guy didn't take it must be a wood snob! :loco:  If it's wood and it burns I take it.

Nice score! Don't think I've come across any mulberry here, but if I did, I'd do same thing you did! Free heat is the best kind.

Thanks for all the comments. I've learned so much this past year from everyone. I couldn't bring myself to leave that last round behind, so the front seat works well. Especially since the back end was sagging pretty good. That fresh cut mulberry is heavier than any oak I've scrounged that was equal in size.
