The homeowner sent me a text today:

“On another note - the statistics of this bell heater are going to knock some socks off. I only have to burn maybe 1 full load in a day, maybe 2 arm loads, keeps the whole place toasty - wonder what insulation can do? haha.”

There must be 4000-5000lbs of mass in the masonry of this stove, and that’s the key distinction when people who have them claim they only use a fraction of the Firewood they would have burned in a regular wood stove. They capture, hold then slowly release massive numbers of BTUs.

I don’t even think my Ideal Steel could have compared to the effect this mass has on gleaning every ounce of heat out of the exhaust stream.

I've been fortunate in that this new design didn't require tooling/molding costs up front. Therefore a Kickstarter campaign wasn't necessary to make these available!

The listing for these 6" shippable cores is finally available now at 6" batch box rocket heater shippable core | eBay

I'm looking for some type of outside fireplace/heater. Not sure on anything at this point but my only concern is it gets really windy in Amarillo and I want to be able to have a fire without causing another one.

As far as manufactured go, I'd seriously consider these:
    Q Stove - Products
    Timber Heaters

If you're seriously considering a rocket heater, the 55 gallon barrel rocket heater I posted photos of above in this thread would certainly work, as would this:
season extender rocket mass heater - for inside of a greenhouse or .... outside (rocket mass heater forum at permies)

I like the Timber stove but for the price I'd just buy another wood stove for outside. Winds today gusting to 50 mph. :(

It’s not hard to find decent used wood stoves on Craiglist around here that would serve well as backyard heaters.

Eric don't you have something like this? I'd like to learn more about these "rocket" heaters. Years ago I was working on a new house that had (iirc) what they called a "masonry" heater/stove. I was young & thought it sounded cool but should have investigated more. It was massive with a bunch of channels for the smoke to heat up this pile of bricks, and I think a built in bread oven.

Ours took 3 guys and 3 days to build a 2 story masonry heater.
does not include regular mason to build foundation in the basement (1 more day).
