Glad we don't shovel snow around down here!! Or have to peek out my door before I walk out so I don't get killed by a snow slide!
Careful Clemsonfor, they got snow in Dallas ain't nothing safe. I remember ice and a little snow in the northern part of Florida about 1956.
That's the look I'm going for. Easy to maintain, but stunning. The LED lights have really made the corals pop under then versus fluorescent or halide lights. In its prime, my 200 gallons basement reef tank was impressive. I had a lot of SPS corals and they grew so fast that the water chemistry was hard to keep under control, even with a calcium reactor that would replace all the elements that the corals would use to build their skeletons.
Yup, I have opinions on those. If your roof is strong enough to hold weight for an extended time, they're Ok for points of ingress/egress. For a metal roof they have stagger patterns that slow the slide, but you don't want a build-up. It's gonna slide at one point, I'd rather it break off on a slab and be done (unless I'm under it). I've seen ( and built) snow fencing that looked good, but formed the most God-awful ice dams in the spring. Like, kill you if they broke at the wrong time ice dams. Keep them localized, make sure your trusses can support the build-up, and just deal with the clean up in the other areas. Just my .02
We have a lot of slate roofs in our area on late 1800 - early 1900's houses. Many of them have copper snow retainers down at the lower part of the roof. Our neighbors copper retainers have eroded away and when the snow lets go, it is a massive slide. The dark slate definitely melts the snow faster when the sun hits it.
Copper is just too soft. I know the Architects like it for it's patina, but it's not the right material for this. Stainless or galvanized clips would be much better. They can be coated for a color-match, but it's more cost. Now, AZZ galvanizing has introduced a brown patina finish to their galvanizing. It looks good , so an alternative to copper. It might be an option for your neighbors when they get ready to replace their existing clips. edit- Sorry, I slipped right back into "work mode". Just what I'd tell a G.C. when asked.
Mornin' Hoarders, well, the flu bug seems to have hit the ponderosa. Rottie Girl is flatter than pi$$-on-a-plate in bed with chills, aches, and the other two "not pleasant" side effects. She has been trying to fight it off for about a week now with periodic shorts bursts, but alas, I believe she has now gotten the "full meal deal" of it. No doubt in my mind Rottiman will probably soon be the lucky winner as well. The only upside, if there is one, is that with both of us being retired can fight it the way you should. We have a lot of it going around in this area, so no real big surprise. On that note, everyone have a great and safe day.
Just watched a story on the today show saying that the latest thought by the "experts" is that it can be spread by breathing as well hand contact. Oh, and yes, we both had gotten the flu shot last fall.
