It is a shame but a lot of folks think any dog that runs deer is an ornery dog. Not so! Most any dog will run deer and the problem is that once they start, it is almost impossible to stop them. But occasionally it backfires. A neighbor likes to tell of the time his dog saw deer in the pasture behind his house so went out to chase them. Instead, one doe chased the dog right back to the house! I'd love to have watched that one!
When I raised hunting and field trial beagles it was a huge problem if they tracked deer. The ones worth keeping wouldn't so deer trackers had to be culled. I've had labs and 2 Weimaraners that would site chase a deer but come back quickly. The spoiled house beagle I have now will take off after deer but I can call him back, a bigger problem is chasing squirrels.
Dogs chase whatever runs away from them. Too many examples of this.....cats for instance. people out on walks (me and 99) with aggressive barking dock hair standing up coming at you....DO NOT TURN TAIL AND RUN!
Looks like the deer is ok. Found where it slept and there is a deer highway right too it. Also found where they dug up the snow to eat.
Nice story, I am a little surprised it let you pick it up with out a tussle, glad the deer and you are OK.
It wasn't happy I picked it up,but it was small enough and tired enough that I was able to do it. Anything bigger would have required a rope and dragging I think
I’ve handle deer from new born fawn to 300 pound monster bucks (not in hard antler) and boy are they a riot! Very quick and boy are they strong! Not to mention the little ones are rrreeeaaalllyyyy noisy! Almost sound like kids screaming Glad to hear you got her up and going again, they are pretty darn tough she should be fine. I wouldn’t be surprised if she hangs around your place.
