Few months of burning! How does this look?

Not bad or what I would say dangerous but as Sav said, good that you cleaned it.

 

Well i say a few months but i cleaned it towards the end of last burn season so not so bad i guess. It really payd to have good seasoned wood. Iv been burning 3 year old mix of hardwoods. Mostly oak, iv got alot of maple to burn also. I made $1100 bucks off the giant pile of wood i showed you guys in my driveway. Well actually my wife did!

 

Do you monitor your flue temps?

 

Iv got a gauge on the pipe about 12 inches up, i never let it go into overfire and try not to let it go into the lower temp that says creosote.

 

I am surprised you have that much creosote in a few months time then, I dont get much at all in one winter but then I tend to run my flue a little hotter then a lot of people.

 

I'm seeing more fly ash than creosote some wood just makes more ash than others. Cherry for example.

 

It does get ran wide open with few logs at a time during the day too because the house gets too hot to pack it during the day for my wife and kids. She works from home so i just have her throw a few logs on at a time without messing with the flu. Im a hoarder what the hell im sittin on 6 to seven cords of two to three years old wood. So if its easier and more comfotable for her i dont mind burning a little extra. I do burn a good mix of wood though, ash, cherry,oak, maple, the birches a little elm. See what it looks like when i open it again i guess. I always have clean smoke outside too.

 

Sounds like you are doing everything correctly, not sure why it would look like that in just a few months.

When i swept it, it was dusty, i do it from the inside with the vacuum tube rt in the chimney opening. So i see and hear everything fall. No big shiny chips either. Cleanout box wasnt concerning either. Been cleaning it myself for 4 years and had my home for eight so im still learning and noticing new things. I do have to say iv learned alot just searching old threads. All you guys are great!!!!

 

That pic was old, iv done the floor, stained the beams and painted. Im getting rid of all the brown tile and doing something else under the stove, probably slate??? Its progess all the beams were brown, which was nice but the wife wanted ebony, i think she did great job with the colors. Yup still some christmas deco to take down.

 

You have a nice house there.
I would do it in a few months again so you have an idea of what it is doing, pick a nice day when the temps are in the 20's or 30's at least.

 

Im not sure, how can i tell and does it matter if it is or isnt?
