It was snowing at 7:30 this morning. Was supposed to start late today. Now it’s almost 9:00 and it looks like the sun is coming out. We will see how the rest of the day goes.
We have no idea what’s going to happen here yet. It’s safer to look out the window than to trust a forecast.
Its 26f right now, just loaded up the stove N/S with redoak splits and put a small round stick of whiteoak up fron as well as a tiny whiteoak split to fill the extra space up front.
got 13 inches total and still rising might have to build a tunnel to the mail box with some of these heavy drifts.
3 outside and 67 in the living room got the ashes out and the coals scattered filled it with maple and maybe i can get it 75 in here.
3 below zero (F) windchill -19,,loaded the beast with ash, hedge apple and mystery wood last nite after work,, coffee is done, time to get outside and test my metal.
We had snow all morning and part of the afternoon yesterday but don't think we got much over an inch or two. Another fresh covering overnight. Looks pretty outside but I'm still patiently waiting for spring. Never used to feel this way but maybe it is age; now I really look forward to spring and warmer weather with no snow or ice.
46f. That loaf of red oak still burning from this morning, and probaly will be till I get home today. Got to love catalyst stoves
I can't seem to find much white in the part of the pile I am in. I do have a big stack...maybe a third a cord of persimmon. Supposedly has higher BTU's than both red and white oak. But the stuff I burned in the cold snap didn't seem to heat as well as just red? But maybe it was so cold it didn't matter...need to give a few more mostly stove fulls of it to see. This was a big tree too, maybe 18" dbh so there is some good dense heartwood.
90% chance of snow on Thursday, that'll be a first for us this winter..... Huge difference from last year.
-7c here and cutting wood without gloves on. Swamp maple burning in the house. And looking like we are done for the minus holycrap for the season?
