-10 here in the shade this morning at 10:50AM. Had Ash in the boiler all night and burning up some Pine now. If we decide to take the kids somewhere today, to get out of the house and do something, I’ll have to switch back to the hardwood to get a four or five hour burn time.
Sitting at -34 C feels -38 C, or -29 F feels -36 F currently. Running the oil burner for now. What a thirsty girl!
Still in the teens here. Snow most of the day but really light. Almost stopped now. Roads not the best as there is still some ice under the fresh snow. But we made it to the city and back with no problems; just took a little longer.
Can they even deliver HHO at -34 ? People with outdoor tanks around here used to have troubles when it got down to 0ºF
They sure can! In the fall around mid or late October, they switch up the diesel/heating oil to winter blend. We've never had heating oil gel (far as I know) yet, but the oil burners definitely get more fussy in the extreme cold. I try to see the oil guy only once a year now.
21 here, using some real dry cottonwood to burn coals down before overnight load of red maple. This has been css for about three years, and feels like throwing bundles of newspaper in the boiler, even cut to 30"-34".
6f like a heatwave here but wind will go right thru ya. Yes it's warm enough to cut some slabs tonight. It's strange when you burn slabs you can cut them at any temp outside . Because you know a boiler with slabs in it house is going to be toasty warm . Heat550 Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk
Sitting in the tropics at -3c/26f. Its way warmer than normal but at least its south of freezing. Im burning the usual blend of fir and pine at the moment. Hey saskwoodburner I have a medium sized fire and a window open
I wish! Actually don't mind -10 to -20 C all winter long, but this colder stuff grinds on a guy after a while.
Currently 12* forecast says were are going south of zero tonight. White Ash is heating the house now with big splits of red oak and a few hedge ready to take over the night time duty.
Woke up this morning to a cool house 65* didn't put a big enough load in the OWB last night still had some hot coals threw on 6 or 7 Maple splits to get things cooking. 16*f outside just loaded OWB with Hard Maple, Red Oak and a couple splits of Black Birch indoor temps. are back to normal 73*
Spent the afternoon on snowshoes walking around in the woods. Coyote came to investigate the sound, and left at a run when it saw me. Found some blowdowns beside some logging trails, including a oak that will be dispatched straight away. Since it is going into the outdoor boiler, I will begin with the limbs at work all the way down. Should turn over 90 percent into energy. Going to hit zero overnight and might hit 10 as a high. Mostly have maple left in the shed. Will refill it this week with a mixture of things.
