I just received an email from Tom at Woodstock about the next Gear Head Hybrid stove.

Brian - here’s a little preview of our next gearhead stove. We’ll post info on our blog in the next few weeks, but if you want to put any of it on line, feel free.

First, we are going to make a somewhat smaller firebox (about 2.6 cubic feet).

Targets are: hybrid combustion v3.0, 10,000-55,000 BTU/hr, 80+% efficiency, 1 gm/hr, top or rear vent, left or right side loading, fixed glass front. Short legs available/ Optional Ash Pan.

We’re trying to keep the price down, and the flexibility up.

We hope to beta test this stove in the fall and winter of 2014-15, and have it be available in the summer of 2015. We’ll begin testing firebox design in the next few weeks, and do the aesthetic design over the summer. We’ve experimented with thermoelelectric generators, and think we may be able to still improve emissions and/or heat exchange over what we are doing now, and do it relatively inexpensively. It’s always good to have things percolating along in the lab!

We think we might offer this stove as a plain box, and then in different period versions - i.e. Federal style, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Modern, or Transitional.

We have always liked Franklin style stoves, and all of our gas stoves are based on Franklin Stove Design.

So we would probably add Franklin wings and base to the plain box as options.

    Interesting.
I like the line drawing version. Plain.
I may need to acclimate to a side loader.
    Hmmmm.
I'll be following this with interest.

On the other hand, 2.6 isn't a whole lot smaller than 3.2.:D

Tom asked if I'd like to Beta test this one too. Not sure what I'm gonna do with the shiny new Ideal Steel production model I just reserved for next year. I'd put it in my basement but I have a natural gas furnace and hot water heater on the old unlined masonry chimney. I'd have to line the chimney and figure out alternative venting for the other two. Or just shut down the natural gas furnace for a year and replace the worn out natural gas hot water heater with electric while I use the Ideal Steel for back up heat to the Beta model.

Yeah, what to do, what to do ...

Sweeeet! This looks like it's gonna have everything I want. Anybody got a link to the waiting list? :smoke:
The IS was just too big for this place, although I tried my dammest to convince myself otherwise. Heh-heh. Is it too much to hope that the rear-vent flue centerline with the short legs will be 22.75", and I won't even have to adjust my liner when I slip this baby in there?

    What...us, pay attention!
Okay, so to add to the wish list a centerline height inline with the Fireview/Keystone/Palladian models. I can't make any promises, but I can make it known that it would be desirable to some existing Woodstock Owners.

Yup. Ray is always looking for that blow... I think he just likes to blow off steam actually. But get a couple beers in him and away he goes!

You don't have to pay attention....you're omniscient! :D
I was just hoping on that, Lorin. Moving the liner up wouldn't be a big deal. My lintel is 28.75" but I'm assuming that won't be a problem with the short legs; I've got about 3" clearance with the Keystone....
Talk to you later....when I order.
