Was wondering if you guys had , or know of , as saw that just never seems to fail ? No matter how little maint. is done to it . Just got me thinking....on the floor board of my Dads RTV lies a Husqvarna 257 . It sits there all year round . Its been rained on..snowed on...you name it ! He yells at me when I try to snag it and do some maint. on it ! BUT...........it never fails :) And it has been used ALOT . I am pretty anal about cleaning my saws...and doing proper maint...........and I have more probs in the long run with my equipment than he does . LOL . I have yet to be able to figure this out :)

Heres where the old 257 lives . BTW ...my Dad is old school......one saw does it all !

The old proud 257..still going strong !

Your Dad and I have a lot in common Fuzz. I've got a 257 that just keeps on keepin on too. Only maintenance I do, other than keep sharp chains on it, is comp air blast the sprocket/bar area once in a while, make sure my fuel is always fresh/new, and dump old fuel often and run it dry. Had it 8 years…

Dad's 1981 Poulan 3400 Countervibe (retired since 2002,tuned up in 2012 & gets used every few months),my late '90's Poulan Pro Super 380 (125+ cords,2 spark plugs,3 air filters, finally had to replace clutch in May 2011 & original 20" bar in Sep 2012) Its my "go-to" saw that sees 80% of all my regular firewood cutting.Starts 2-3 pulls cold, even after sitting a month or so.

My early 80's Pro Mac 610 Craigslist bargain - much nicer than the same saw I owned/used from 1992 to 2000,was sold as a "parts saw" in March 2011.That first one I beat to death, had all kinds of torque but was hard to start when warm or after refueling. It was the 2nd version of the 610,my current older version (with the wraparound chainbrake) starts easily every time, warm or cold.

1981 Echo 280E top handle arborist saw,got this new as a gift..Dont see much use now, will sometimes set for 3-4 months, but it wont die no matter how much abuse its had over the years.Years ago it was dropped 25 feet from a tree (on grass thankfully),dented up the sheetmetal clutch cover/mufflerguard but fired right up afterwards. No chainbrake, not even a hand guard & only 9000 RPM or so,but will chew through the toughest White Oak or Hickory with sharp low profile chain, barely 8 pounds.

The big Husky's & several of the large old Mac's are very reliable too,but they don't get used much except for extra big/tough stuff and/or milling.

"I only hope its half as good as Dads"… well… throw it down the stairs a couple times then run over it with your truck, to break it in right… that's what I do
    Good luck with it.

I've got my Dads Craftsman saw that is 15 years old that still runs like new. Its a nice little saw.
I got a Husky 555 for Christmas that I'm hoping will be the same way.

The Stihl 041AV Super that I pieced together from parts several years ago is an amazingly resilient saw......and I POUND that thing year-round. It finally started acting up back in November during a huge sugar maple removal we did, so it sat on the bench until just this past Friday night when I took the carb off to check it out. Low and behold, I took off the pump side of the carburetor and the inlet screen was clogged. Cleaned it out, put the carb back together and she's back in business! Ran it all day yesterday. Out of all my chainsaws, that is my go-to saw. I love that thing, even though it's old and a lot slower than some of the new ones, it'll drag a 30" bar all day long.......tons of torque. IMO, they just don't make saws like that anymore!!

I've got an Echo string trimmer I've left out on the ground for three years, now. The first year it was by mistake, but it started right up. It gets buried in snow, rain and what have you, but it has always started up in the spring. No plug changes and I don't drain the fuel. Been trying to kill it cause I don't like it much, but it's got one heck of an engine!

For me it's the Echo cs310 that little guy just doesn't stop. It's getting close to 6 years old now and has fired every time without fail. The only issue I have had with it is the oil filter clogged up and I had to buy a new one. I love that saw... It's the same with my Echo trimmer it to just works.

My dad's 08S. I can remember it back as far as 1979. He's had it for longer than that too. That saw has never ever failed to start and do what it was supposed to do. She's cut a many load of firewood.
To this day you can go out there and she will fire right up.

No such thing as equipment that never fails!

What is "RTV" other than the sealant? Some sort of forestry equipment?
