Doing some light framing today, swapped a header out yesterday to open up the kitchen living room area. Also flipped the steps around and brought them as close to code as possible, tough to do in some older homes. This is our final home a 1200 sq ft ranch over a full basement. Basement will be finished out, about 900 sq ft, as we do all the holiday gatherings.

That's my dad that's in Florida. There were a few mornings where he was only 10 degrees warmer than us!

    Inlaws live in Wakefield Ma.

Unfortunately, he's so stubborn and proud that he won't accept help. Which totally sucks for my MIL who has to struggle helping lift him when a health aid could be doing it. She has a totally full plate. Her MIL is 95 and has breast cancer, she's been helping her a lot, and her own mother is 90, and up until 2-3 weeks ago was living alone with dimentia. Thankfully, she is now living in a facility which I believe will be permenant. Huge load off of my MIL

What sucks is that because she was so untrustworthy of everyone, she would never allow the possibility of putting the house in a trust. So now, after scratching and clawing to raise a family while poor, amd the only wish they had was for the house to go to their kids, it's gonna go to the state to pay for her care.

Morning. I thought we would see snow this morning as it was at freezing last night. Stars were out but this morning it has gotten warmer and looks like misty rain out there.

Sorry to hear that so many of us are dealing with aging parents. We were fortunate to find a caregiver to live with my grandfather who stayed with him right to the end in his own home. She treated him like he was her own grandfather. Fortunately right now my mother is still able to live at home and be very independent but it won't last forever. I am not looking forward to that day we have to move her out.

It's so hard to give up control, or the illusion of it. My mom set up a trust, but I don't think she understood the import of durable power of attorney and health care proxy. When it was time to exercise those powers, she was completely blindsided. You and I could probably tell similar stories about getting them into a dementia facility.

Why do people think they can get professional quality work for high school labor prices? When was the last time you got a pro to do anything in your home for less than $30 per hour? Aggravated here. Just because you are over budget on your project, doesn't mean I should take a hit on my wage. I

I bid a large interior paint job and the homeowner thinks $30 per hour is too much. He wouldve had a heart attack if he got my price back when I ran a 10 man paint crew.

This is in a very nice home. I can't stand it when nice homes have chit paint jobs. I guess lots of people have never seen what a GOOD painter can do compared to a Harry homeowner or handyman.

If you can't do it yourself, you get what you pay for.

Some people don't like paying for good stuff.

Sorry, its true. I wonder if you can structure your bids differently? Like one $ for total job instead of breaking it down with hourly pay in there?
