I finished up a five bag test run and wasn't impressed. Says hardwood on the bag but smells like a fresh cut 2X4 ! I saw about 30+ degree lower air temps compared to the clean energy (Hamers) I was burning thru the cold spell. (at the same stove settings) I think they are lacking in density. Hopefully they can improve them, I would like to support a local mill.
Same here, Nice to finally have a mill thats close. I'm likely to get some as they were Ok in the warmer weather. Better than some of the other offerings locally(Curran-GS-Chit river). Burning the sister brand Blackstones and they be doing fairly well above the 20ºF temps!! Sets will get saved for the cold snaps that may slide in......... Current price is about the best bang for the buck in my corner @ $229/ton. Only other deal is chows @ $249/ton unless I snag 3 tons to get the price to $229/ton.
I tried a couple bags and wasn't that much impressed either, although the bags didn't have as many fines or dust as the Stove Chows. The Chows put out better heat for sure. The Still River really smell pure pine tree.
That was the experience here as well. We burned the Black Stones version and had to chuckle at them being advertised as 100% hardwood, because they had a very strong softwood smell.
I have a harman accentra insert. I used still river pellets in 2020 ? They were excellent. Lowes sold them at discount price after the winter was about over. I needed one more ton of the winter. I paid I think $240 which is amazing price. Today home depot is selling Greene supreme for 349 . Too much for me. I saw aubuchone and lowes have still river right now Lowes is 329 ? Aubuchon is $289 per ton However , it is cheaper to heat with natural gas this year. So I won't be using the expensive pellet stove. $289 per ton is equilibrium Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
Near me it's: Lowes is $349($314.10 with 10% coupon). Tractor Supply just dropped from $349 to $329/ton Home Depot is $349/ton A pellet house has some good stuff @$360 to $385/ton I don't have Propain, But smoil is not far off @$3.42/gallon. Plus it's much less work to burn the juice. No bags to deal with-no ash to clean and no delivery fees. Only need to service the furnace once a year instead of once a week(at best). The bummer with juice is the carbon footprint. Almost a no brainer to just sit back an enjoy the "no work" with the juice!!
