Wow how time flies!! Seems like yesterday we were 19 & 21.

I'd like to do something special and of course not a lot of $$ to spend doing it. His family is out of state.

Kinda throwing around in my mind asking the guys at work to help. They have a cool mongolian grill thing there that they use often. Conspire with the dispatch guy to get everyone back to the shop by like 3 or 4 pm and decorate the shop with some party stuff and "over the hill" banner etc?

I'm pretty lost on other ideas and would appreciate any ideas :)

Gift ideas, a cane, with a note so we can walk together when our limbs fail us. A nice chair what guy doesn't want a comfortable chair too relax in after work. Especially when he's getting over the hill. Assuming he doesn't already have reading glasses and other older man items.

    Classic Birthday card idea.
Put a condom and a anti diarrhea pill in a card. Then write " I figured you would need both because at your age you don't know if you are coming or going"!

Friend of mine is 50 Saturday. We're going on a dive bar tour! Surprising how many dive bars there are in town, we will not have time to hit them all! :coldone::pete::coldone:

Hey FHC, do you recall placing ads in the classified section of the news back in the day like "Lordy Lordy Look Who's 40" ?

    Toying with "Nifty Nifty Look Who's 50! " ?

    Thoughts?

Thank You, he's not on FB either. Guess I'll do a cake and decorations at his work that morning for the Monday Morning Meeting with the whole company, and lil one and I can make a home made cake thing for him that night.

When my mom turned 50 we made a bunch of signs related to 50 and posted them just below the road signs on her way to work. A block away from her job was the movie theater with the marquee out front and we knew the owner. We posted upcoming feature Ma is 50 Rated X. At the cafe she takes break at we had a black cake with black roses an the preacher man there to give last rites over a black plywood casket we built and set in there and a headstone set by it that read RIP MA IS 50!

The guys at work suggested the monday morning meeting instead of the afternoon, which is actually better so I won't have to take lil one out of school early to make it there in time. BUT, he's now talking about taking the day off to go fishing here (spring gnat hatch or fish waiting for it or something jtakeman ? as there are no lil fliers here at today ).

So, new plan is I ordered two 5oth Bday decoration kits, and a helium tank (would you believe they sell small ones and they are only $20 at Walmart now ?!? ). I secured a standing meeting with the office manager around lunch on Sunday (Bday is Monday) to hang the decorations and leave a cake for the morning meeting that WWW will hopefully make (he always talks about and threatens to take days off but rarely does so we'll see).

Home made cake by the hands of lil one and myself here for that night, and all the second 50th bday kit items all over the house

The oddest thing ever................We've been together for a long time, he used to take a vacation day every birthday since like--1991 ish(?) to drive up here and go fishing on the exact lake we live on now. Who would have ever have thunk, huh?

Thanks Greenstick for the great suggestion, I'm going to do a couple around here on our fence posts for him and also give some to neighbors and ask them to do the same.  I can just imagine him driving down the road tilting his head and wondering :dex:

The one gift I have is a modified gun thing that shoots salt to kill spiders/insects. Woops:emb: the daisy pellet gun given to lil one for Christmas a couple years ago could not handle table salt and no long pumps pressure up. He needs a new propeller for the boat, but has saved many Cabelas gift certificates from his family the last couple years from Christmases and Birthdays. His awesome Bday gift will have to be us, his family. I thought about arranging a skype thing for both his mother and father, but sadly somehow the "good" kid (WWW) is always on their chit list. (Fathers wife is WWW's age with a teen, and the mother, well, non emotional but great at bringing peeps down and creating drama?) My family will do it and make it fun, but it's my mother & husband and my father & wife, not the same kwim and not sure if it would be fun or if he would be irked because of his parents not participating). What are your opinions?

My feelings about adult birthdays are...
It's nice to have the acknowledgement that it is in fact your birthday, and a gift is welcome but not expected, but by the end of the day, less is more.
