Through this arctic blast from Canada, I've had a casualty. One that would normally hurt. However; with dad in the hospital and then rehab, I've been able to drive his Chrysler mini-van. The week dad went into the hospital, my Jetta sat in the yard. Not a good thing for a diesel in cold weather. When it came time to use it, she wouldn't turn over. I grabbed the charger and plugged it in for several hours only for it to fault out. The garage across the street also tried to jump her, but was not able. With everything going on, I've not been able to catch up with Paul, the owner. I figured it was a battery. Common sense. It's been about 5 years. Before I replaced the battery, I wanted to make sure that the alternator was fine. Yesterday after two weeks of not being able to catch with him, I finally caught Paul in the garage. He confirmed it was just the battery and will replace it today. If you are wondering why I didn't call him, I did call him several times. There are only two of them there. They don't answer the phone often. My experience has been never. Best to just go there to see them. Come winter he's not there as much. It's an old building and expensive to heat. As a result, they don't work all of the time throughout the winter. Funny to me. Hope you get a laugh My car had sat in their lot across the street for over a week. Right before the snow storm, he must have pushed it over into the yard. The lot they use is used by Paul's garage, a machine shop and another garage. The other garage has a small portion of the lot, but keeps expanding. The machine shot has used their fork lift to move the cars over the line into the road or to block the entrance to their garage. It's rather comical. Paul moved my car into the yard as the lot would need to cleared of snow. What Paul didn't know is that the machine shop was going bury all of the cars over the line with the snow from the lot. We are close friends with the machine shop and they wouldn't do that to my car. Which is probably why they told Paul to move my car. I wish I had a picture of the two rows of cars buried in snow from the lot. My dad and I got a kick out of it. This battle has been ongoing for over a decade. Last night walking back from Paul's garage, the other garage was parking a car after the cars that are still buried without a care in the world. Just to clarify, the problem is not with Paul and the machine shop. It's the machine shop and the other garage. The owner of the machine shop and Paul are related. Paul rents the garage from the machine shop owner's dad. He ran that garage along with his brother for a very longtime. The whole family are close personal friends of ours. The other garage has been around for a long time now. The problem with them is that they have no regard for other people. They often block the road with the customer's cars, they over flow cars on the state land at the bottom of my driveway. Which sometimes blocks my driveway. Along with himself, his customer's have no regard for other people's property. They constantly leave trash where they park their cars. The worse part is the devaluation of my property. He pace is such a chithole, my property is worth less because of it. Not to mention when the weather turns warm, they start working later into the night with the doors open. When I say late, I mean 10 or 11pm at night. Nothing like impact drivers going off late at night. This usually prompts me to call over there a couple of times asking them to shut it down. They give me an attitude on the phone asking who is this the first couple of times, but I don't push them hard. By the second call they stop doing it. I wish they would come in at 8am and work until 8pm rather than come in at 11am and work until 12am. For the most part I try to live in harmony staying out of it. Hopefully we'll move at some point soon before it comes to a boil. It could be the new Hatefield and the McCoy's.
