Whitfield Profile 20 issue

Hello, first of thanks for having me here! I have learned lots by trolling around but please excuse me if this has been answered before. I just cleaned the entire stove as it was having problems staying lit for more than an hour. Once cleaning the photo eye it now runs a solid 5 and a half hours but then goes into chit down mode. There is not thermostat attached and it’s really strange how it runs almost exactly 5 and half hours which I’m sure is an anomaly. I did notice my photo eye does not run through a lense in the shoot just a slot in the right hand side. Can post pics if necessary but I am happy it’s running for as long as it is.

The issue may be a faulty photo eye.

I have not messed with this particular stove, so I don't have the hands on that I do with the manual lite models.

The photo eye sends a signal to the controller that it sees light (electrical signal)

If the photo eye is not signaling then the controller assumes the fire went out and shuts off the fuel feed.

You might try removing the photo eye and setting it up to where you can shine a light on it as a test and see if the stove will run as it should.

I am not sure if the photo eye is a simple on off switch or if it generates a signal voltage.

If I remember correctly these photo eyes have been an issue over the years.


I will do some digging and see if I can find some info.

After reading the article my feeling is that the photo eye is just a switch (ON/OFF)

That being said the fix is an easy one.

Read the thread and do the fix.
