That we cut down middle of last year? It burns mighty fine! My little prefab fireplace is kicking out some heat. [IMG]

Cottonwood has its place, I’ll give you that. Burns quick yes but if you’re looking to start your fire and get coals going, this stuff is good for that or the hot fire too!

Around here most of the cottonwood is 3’ or bigger. I try to get the butt logs to the sawmill and only take the straightest branches. Usually a dozer has pushed the whole tree over, so i can pick and choose what I want, as the landowner will just push everything into a burn pile or burn pit, depending on which guy is operating the equipment. I have several dozer guys that will call me when they have a lot of trees to push over. Usually I burn the cottonwood mixed in with silver maple, hackberry, and Chinese elm.

Yep I burn a lot of cottonwood every winter. The main goal of any wood and stove is to keep the house warm. It will do that.

A load in my fireplace may last 2 hours. I'm only loading a few splits at a time now and it seems to coal a little better. I know can only expect so much from a builder grade fireplace and I think for what it's worth this one does great. I've learned to run the ceiling fan on low to pull the heat up. Seems to do better that way

What you have works well for your area, peace of mind if the power goes out. Take some chill out and assist the heating bill. All is good.
