So i have read it's suggested to clean your stove every time you switch pellet fuel. Anybody know why this is recommended?? I am speculating the main reason is to help isolate fuel problems. But is there an immediate concern of not doing so? I could see following this procedure after burning a ton of this and a ton of that, but what about 3 bags of this and 7 bags of that?? Who made up this nonsense and why should I follow it? If you are one that goes by the book, how often do you do this and how literal do you interpret it? Just curious.
X2 it’s certainly not required or some kind of standard. Only time I could think that would apply is if I were trying to gauge the dirtiness / ash output of a new brand I never tried before.
X2...I do it to see what the "new" pellet is like. Probably because I test pellets too so it's a little in me to clean before I switch. I actually did it this morning. I did a full clean with the LBM and now I'm running Chow's to see what they're actually like.
I mix as well but empty hopper to introduce newer pellets for heat comparison. I usually do that on a clean slate which is rare these days
Same here only when I want to check out in comparison a new batch or kind of pellet otherwise your looking at the mixmaster if my stoves were turn tables i might have not had to go into the construction business
Even when taking temps at the airstream and/or above the door, I don't account for whether the stove is clean or dirty. I figure that the stove is "dirty" 99.99% of the time so what do I care what a pellet does in a clean stove? I am more interested in how it performs when there is ash on the sidewalls and outside the air tubes.
Wow, you can certainly tell the Harman & Englander owners in this thread.. "Throw it in there, it'll burn ANYTHING!" In the minority here: like Steve, I'll do a deep clean & empty Hopper when testing a new brand pellet I'm really interested in: to compare vs. what we normally burn / to give it a "fair shake" in the stove. * But really more interested on checking for any buildup, post test-burn, on the small stove here.
