I got a nice load of limb wood. Planning to split some for my special indoor fireplace burning stash. My favorite wood to cut, split and burn by far, and seemingly more rare around here these days.

That trunk is big and beautiful! I'm glad it's getting milled. Your trailer full of limbs is big and beautiful too!

A big oak like that, standing dead, with no rot or insects?

    Nice, very nice indeed.

Around here, if the mill knows its a yard tree, they won't take it

That's some big wood you got there. Red oak is a pleasure to work up. Enjoy the future BTU's.

I don’t know, as they were taking it with a grapple truck, but I will try to find out how much they got for it

That's a beauty there, nice find! Wonder what killed it & left no evidence? We've got Oak wilt here, but you can usually identify that.

I don’t know, it was just how you see it when I arrived, but from the limbs you could tell it had been dead several years.

unfortunately, it was sold to the mill, and they own it now, not sure when it will be processed, so don't think I will be able to help with pics on this one. I do hope to find out how much they got for it, which I will post.

Well, was bummed to find out that the log only brought $170 at the mill. Processed into firewood it would have been worth 300-350 as I think it would have been 1.5 cords. 170 with almost no labor is sometimes better than 300 with what would have been a lot of labor. But was surprised it only brought $170!

Is the remaining wood at the base figured? Looking at all the lumps and bumps, it looks like it would have some nice grain. My first thought is block some up for carvers and wood turners and sell on CL.

That log he is leaning on is what was taken to the mill. It was cut in half to make two 8.5 ft pieces and so grapple could lift. They got 170 total for both logs.
