Woke up to 3 degrees this morning with a fresh coat of new snow outside and tended the fire before the rest of the family wakes up. Everything appears to be so blue outside! Been burning a steady diet of oak, hickory and black birch. All big splits and long (20" - 22") for over nighters. Burning the coals down with some small dry splits of Sassafras this morning. Stay warm everyone, hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2018.
5* here and just a dusting of snow, burning 3yo red and white oak, hickory and ash,,,Happy New Year and prosperous hoarding to all in 2018!
It's minus 6 here and looks like we're having this cold snap through Friday. I'm using way more wood than usual feeding 2 stoves, mostly red oak and pig nut. Going to pull from the white oak stack for awhile.
Had 2 below this morning. Burnt down coals till 9 then loaded some beech and hickory. Just started a crock pot full of pork & kraut. Heading out shortly to drop a few smallish poplars. Up to 12 now....Happy 2018.
Woke up at 3am it was -2F. Put a full load of locust in at 4am and ran the stove real hard. Burning down the coals now, next load of locust is on deck. I'll throttle it down this time since the house is warmer....and we're gonna get hot today, like 9F!
I have burned through about 4 face cords so far. With these temps I could easily go through 2 a month for Jan & Feb...
Burning a mixture of oak and mulberry that was split in November. Of 2013. I think it's about dry, but I didn't check it with the moisture meter.
I saw -14 this morning when I got up and it is now up to -8. We are burning some oil cause our little Hotshot can't quite keep up. It is doing a good job on making ashes out of red oak and hickory. Might warm up a little bit next week.
Warmed up to -4° burning oak, hickory and if it keeps up...... I'll be burning the tires off the truck.
