Well, we like reading your posts saying it's 90° somewhere, when it's popsicle land here. How cold is the coldest it gets by you, when it's winter there?
Hopefully they didn’t melt Grahamt! Its about 29° out just threw a big alder split on top of a coaling cedar fire. Today ends the freezing trend and we’ll be back with mid range 40’s and 30’s with rain and occasional breaks. On another note White Christmases around here happen seldomly. About once every 8-10 years in the lowlands if conditions are just right..that was quite fun while it lasted. Glad my daughter got to play in it while it was coming down. I had a movie of her playing but it’s too dark for a photo snap.
yessir ... the secondary burn extracts the heat from the smoke that would ordinarily go up the stack by combusting the gases ... it’s almost like getting the heat of 2 logs from one ! The old stoves were 40% efficient ... with the thermal-mass I gotta be 80% or better !
Hey we made it up to 0 degrees. Predicting around negative 15 tonight, real Temps as I don't pay attention to real feel. if wind is blowing you layer up. I am burning maple and loading every 8 hours trying to keep STT between 500 and 650.
Ahhhh! I lived on South Elm when I was a little kid, went to Pearson School. Your a firefighter? Then I'd guess you know Derrin Moore? Send him my regards! We went to High School together. My BIL lives on N. Pike, my aunt lives on Sunset. We'll have to hook up sometime, have a coffee.
Sweet, they changed the forcast for tomorrow! Gonna be a high of 9F.....much better than the 8F it showed this morning. It's currently 13F back at home. Wife being kept warm with oak and locust. Quote cozy in the car while I wait for a customer to meet me for lunch.
Hasn't gotten above 26º here today so far. Got some nice big oak splits in Granny, She's burning in at about 350º, stack temps are perfect! Room a toasty 78º and puff smoking away.
Sitting at -29 C (-21 F) and calm. Warmest it has been in days. Wood stove taking a breather because some lazy guy wanted to enjoy his morning before emptying ashes.
I emptied the kicker stove's ashes this morning. If you use it for a day, you have to empty it for it to burn better. Finicky
Temps dropped to -1 so I can keep burning without everyone melting , few places had snow last night but nowt for us.
What I was meaning is the new ones look nice. But regardless of looks they work so good that looks should not matter. I have the older not as nice looking model, but don't care because of performance. I can't replace the door, my version the door hinge is on the bottom. The new models are on the side. I want to replace as mine are original to the house 86 build. While I cant comment on how much use from previous owner. My HVAC man told me he installed the forced air furnace, and tells me she is mint. So I can only believe the Blaze Kings have given 31 years of service. I want to enclose my pole barn, and can move the BKK to the shop and replace the unit in the house.
Just got home and the stove is simmering away, it's a "mild" 18F with no wind and good sun. I might be able to make to the bedtime reload with what is in there. Maybe a few sticks later on to keep the temps up.
You can find battery pads, battery blankets (doesnt' work very well), heat pads, and trickle charger all online and amazon will home delivery. Buy 2- 100 watt self adhesive pads (1 for engine oil pan, 1 for tranny oil pan, trickle charger (battery pad optional) get a pig tail and 15 foot ext cord. Keep pig tail under hood, plug and route all wires. Zip tie for security and neatness, keep excess ext cord under hood, route ext cord through grill and plug in when cold. I personally don't use a batter blanket but lots here do. When you battery is charging it cant freeze. My vehicle lives outside and in 17+ years I have never had a non start issue. When I go out to start my truck even when it -30* or colder my EOT/ECT is usually above 70* tans is 40*+. So if you buy that mountain your talking about you will need to complete the above you will live the rest of your days on said mountain.
Canadian border VT -Wow your running your IS harder than me! Where are you setting your air lever? And where are you reading temps. I was affraid to set it any higher than 2 marks over 1/4 throttle. I've seen 450 for the highest at thats right next to the flue exit via ir thermo.
Made it up to 0 today from -19 this morning. Thank goodness for the sun for some solar help! House is at 73 right now. Only down to -6 tonight. Pushing oak and ash like its going out of style! Still some nasty cold coming for the weekend: Nothing compared to those alaskan temps though!!
The coldest I have ever measured at home was +18F although I am sure at times when camping out in the desert and in mountains I have been in colder weather but nothing like you blokes get up there. I remember times when we couldn't get water out of jerry cans in the morning or milk for breakfast because it had frozen overnight. Now that may seem normal for some but when it's 110F during the days out in the desert dropping below freezing is a shock to the system for warm blooded Aussies. I also remember a time when camping up in the Victorian high country when my mate made me a coffee one morning (in a stainless steel mug), I sat it down on the back of the truck to do something when I got back to it it had frozen. I don't know how cold it was but we did not venture far from the fire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
