On another car forum I belong to a guy is building a "Stihl " chainsaw. Apparently you can goto this web site and buy a kit with all the parts then you assemble it. Seemed interesting he says the quality is good and everything is fitting together so far. The website is huztl.net and it says the parts are 100% interchangeable Well just thought some of you guys might find this interesting.
Is this what you're referring to? US$ 156 Complete Repair Parts for STIHL MS361 ENGINE MOTOR CRANKCASE CRANKSHAFT CYLINDER PISTON CARBURETOR SHROUD TOP COVER CHAINSAW Is that really the complete saw?
YUP.............. like race cars, rough crowd over there though. If you do not have thick skin, do not enter
All kinds of threads on these. I have built the 660 and enjoyed doing it. It is a toy and won’t be a daily cutter, plan on trying to mill with it. I have plans to build their 070 next, just waiting for it to go on sale.
Chinese knock offs. That said, they apparently work pretty darn well. They get around any infringement by selling the parts, not a built saw.
I got in on a group buy on another forum for a 660 clone. Kit was pretty decent for the price. Certainly not OEM quality, but whadya expect? As with anything chinese aftermarket, quality and consistancy is very hit/miss. Chain tensioner was a bit crunchy, i used oem wrist pin bearing and clips. Rubber parts are questionable, as are the fit and finish of the covers, little details all over... but all said and done i have a 90cc saw for $250 and a few hrs of my time.
