Brisk out there, hanging at -26 C feels -36 C, or -16 F feels -32 F. Poplar in the stove and oil burner tag team, probably for the next 5 days.
Hard to believe that's it about 20° with no wind, just finished plowing and there calling for 5"-8" of snow over night and Xmas day. I've got plenty of wood and plenty of beer, I'm good too go. Merry Christmas everyone
Merry Christmas Eve everyone. 27 under when I got up at 10 this morning. Not nearly as easy to do an RK moose as it was 10 years ago. But I had real good helpers ! Young guys in their late 20s. . Poplar in the stove. Gotta go start the van get it warming up t go to church .
Hello Brian, how are things back east? All is well on Christmas Eve here. If you overlaid the RI foot print over town here the trees and bodies of water would put number the residents. Deadhorse is up there, she’s a cold one. Have a Merry Christmas.
Really? I guess we're just spoiled down here in the lower 48 with much higher btu wood that lasts longer? I suppose that you really insulate well up there, and that will make a big difference.
Hey, no big complaints but all the little ones. All things considered, 'me and mine' are doing fine in life! Glad to hear all is the same with you and yours. If I was to 'fess up, I would have to tell you I am down to sweat pants 'cause the stove kinda' got away from me and the house is a little warm. I guess I was looking at those single- digit predictions when I loaded and set the stove, while it is still in the mid- 30's here. The punishment fits the crime. But in a couple of days, I will have to cover the water meter in the cellar so it does not freeze..... again. If this house was in AK, all its occupants would be dead from exposure by now. I just looked for fun and AK has 663,268 sq mi and around 3/4 million people total. RI has 1,200 sq. mi. and just over a million people. You have all the parking lots and we have all the cars. It ain't right I tells' ya'! Merry Christmas and stoke that stove! Brian
I had an acquaintance some years ago who lived far enough north in AK to have -50, -60F temps. as the norm in the winter. It is not just 'cold' or 'colder' than what most of us think of as 'winter' but a different way of life. Vehicles left outside are rendered useless. Houses have multiple sources of heat because a single one failing means death, not being uncomfortable. There is no 'just running to the car' or anywhere outside in a shirt 'cause exposed skin simply freezes in those conditions. A harsh environment that very well punishes the foolish and even those not quite vigilant enough. And on top of that, they gots' them there big bears (we have black bear here but a 'big' one is 275 lbs.). In fact, I have another acquaintance that was attacked on a motorcycle by a moose- seriously. Bullwinkle must have thought that bike was looking to horn- in on some of his cows. Both the rider and bike were pretty badly damaged; the rider recovered but it took months. Gives a whole new meaning to 'shiver me timbers'. Brian
Not as bad as you would think. My walls are 10 inch three side square log. Like previous stated by others once you break-50 then it starts getting interesting. As all things enough experience and you can overcome any obstacles. As you can see the stove is not running that hard only 3 pieces of spruce
It is a 2004 dodge 2500. I have the 5.9 in it. 22 mph on hi way with the epa junk deleted. I like the motor, but the rest of it is junk. Hard to find standard transmissions in a truck these days
It has warmed up to -18 tonight. My brother lives 6 miles away at 1000 feet more elevation. His temp was 9 above! Darn cold valleys.
What special part of cold hades do you live in? Your border is probably a 6 to 7 hour south-west jaunt for me, and you're telling me it's colder there than the middle of Sask? Currently -27 C feels -39 C, or -17 F feels -38 F.
It’s Christmas Eve folks and eh...its snowing! Arrived back home about 10 mins ago to about 2 inches and started a brisk fire. Out is 31F Inside is a balmy 48° F. Loading her up soon with birch, maple, and a nice cherry split.
True that’s what I was after 8 foot bed and manual. I have a auto and short bed. It’s an 07 f350 outlaw
Red oak, red maple, and black birch tonight. Gotta make sure there's plenty of heat in the pipes to crank the thermostat first thing in the morning with everybody crawling around on the floor opening presents. Apple will be the morning boiler food so when it gets too warm inside and we crack a window, it will smell delicious inside. We find that the aroma compliments Mrs Papi's home made cinnamon rolls nicely.
Currently 26 just fired up a load of birch for the night. It just started snowing supposed to get 5-8 by tomorrow afternoon, but it’s also supposed to blow 50mph gusts. Not good with the 1/8”-1/4” of ice that’s in the trees from yesterday
