View attachment 148640 Merry Christmas Eve, Eve hoarders! With it being the holidays and all (and a couple hot toddys in me) I thought I'd risk sounding emotional and share something with you all. Today marks the completion of a long time dream of mine. I grew up my whole life living in apartments in the city. My Mom always did a great job decorating for Christmas but living in an apartment we never had a fireplace. See I love Christmas. No I mean I love Christmas! Like Norman Rockwell Christmas. Anyways you can't very well have a Norman Rockwell Christmas without a fireplace and a mantel. Well I moved to the sticks 12 years ago and got a woodstove. Today I FINALLY finished my mantel. I milled the slabs from a Fir we fell on our property in April and my wife did the finish work. Anyways just thought I'd share as I think some of you would appreciate it. Now back to my hot toddy. Cheers!
Congratulations! Most of us have a "made it" moment some time in life, and remember it forever. Thanks for sharing yours. Cool mantle, too - it's great that you got it off your own land, and now it could be there for a hundred years. ...can we get some pics of the fireplace, too? Not to be greedy or anything..
That's a great looking setup Skidder. How did you get that barn board backing past the insurance dudes?
Thank you! What they don't know won't hurt em. In all honesty it's laminent. From what I've read it has a pretty high combustion threshold. Plus it's beyond the combustable material space specs of my setup.
SkidderDone, I think that's a great job you and the wife did. Not bad for a former (city slicker) lol. And Merry Christmas to and your family and everyone else on this forum.
Nothing like the feeling of accomplishing something you have longed for. Great looking mantel. Enjoy the BTU's from that stove.
SkidderDone you will no doubt spend much time reminiscing of the old times but the new times will be the best! Congratulations.
That's what I'm talking about! Great looking spot there, Skidder. Easy to see why you're proud of your setup - I would be, too. I hope you have many years of Norman Rockwell scenes there at the hearth. Merry Christmas!
SkidderDone congratulations on your Goal/dream coming true! Hard work and persistence pays off and it looks very good, Norman Rockwell would be proud ! Merry Christmas
