Warmer in the house by a few degrees. The elves have some wrapping to do now the the kids are tucked in.
For a good reason. They made with voodoo ninja magic. They are arguably the best. If a few posts above you can see the hundred degrees difference. I use one stove to heat 3176 square feet. I know there are other good stoves. You see them for a reason, they work!
I'm seeing a couple nights next week where we'll have -25° overnight, but for now it's 25°F and falling.
stove is choked with ashes so im letting it go out for it's weekly cleaning. it's 69 in here with the electric heater ( yeah i know electric! burn me at the stake! ) 26 outside and light flurries.
Do you use synthetic oil? I was amazed at how much less grumpy my 7.3 was with it on cold starts. I used to have to park where I couldn't plug in, so it would occasionally get 0F starts. Good batteries, starter, and glow plugs so it was never an issue, but she was definitely not happy to be going to push snow.
Yessir I use synthetic. I have a 6.0! Check out Archoil. I use two products one for the oil and fuel. The fuel additive I get 1.5 MPG better we run D1 arctic fuel. Arch is good stuff. It help with shear rate and stiction. I also have reprogrammed my FICM and PCM with two tuners from PHP out of Georgia. The FICM tuner turns off the pilot injection and preheat. Doesn’t sound like a 6.0 at idle and no longer has that acidic smell in the exhaust. At the pump everyone that has asked if I changed motors. I have to pop the for them to believe it’s a IH 6.0.
I didn't realize that you could change the scent of the newer diesel exhaust! I too can almost never get away with going to the pump without conversation. A 7.3 clacking away in a Bronco at the diesel pump draws attention. I didn't even consider how different your fuel must be up there. Which reminds me, I need to treat my fuel, still a good bit of summer blend in it as I haven't run it much, and the cold is a comin.
Tuning the FICM changes the pulse width, affecting the combination. If you have been around a newer motor they have a acidic stench to the exhaust vs smelling like a diesel.
Yeah, I hate the smell of newer diesel exhaust. I'm kicking around the idea of buying a 6.0 for my next truck. Nobody wants them, so they are fairly cheap. Do all the bulletproof mods and it's still a great deal. Though, I just don't haul enough to need big power anymore, but it's in my blood. V10 or powerstroke are the only things I consider before the 6.2 gas was introduced. Hated the 5.4 in my 04
Finally started dropping again . 29 underneath just before 2 am. Loaded the stove again with poplar. Got back from getting a roadkill moose about an hour ago. It was 35 below where we worked up the carcass. But we had a Ready Heater going to keep the chill off. Meat is at 3 homes at the moment and will prolly be divied up a little more. By morning the quarters in the game bags in my van will be froze solid.
Exactly if you find a nice low miles, bulletproof it and your not half what w new truck cost. This what I did bout the 07 last year of th6.0 has all the updates. Mine had a tick over a hundred k.
Mid 20's to low 30's today with a weather guess of "up to 3" of snow" and the arctic plunge rolls in tonight with 17 guessed at. Ash and Hedgeapple stoked.
The cold snap is supposed to get here tonight...I think it'll be checking in early and get here today. Amazingly, it is 11 now-thought it would be colder. Pretty sure the kicker stove in the basement will be lit off today.
Yeah, I just 'eyeballed' a map and looked at the distance from Tok to Deadhorse. Long way, and all of it north. We are at the opposite ends of the range here; you live in the biggest state in the US while I live in the smallest- RI is only about 30 mi. wide by 46 mi. high. As I am close to the middle, 20 minutes will put me over a border to either of the neighboring states. Merry Christmas to you and be safe up there in that environment! Brian
Yeah, and as always, we will be getting that same weather front in a few days. Not as cold though; we are at a similar latitude but you being far more inland makes your weather harsher I think. Certainly colder. This is my 10 day forecast, and single digits is about our normal 'cold' here. It will drop below zero but not by too much, and not for long. The lowest point is on Friday and is showing 2F. Brian
It was 15° when I got in FHC this am. Now it's snowing, finally, and the temp has gone up to 17°. Elm, beech, and a split of pine in the quadrafire. Secondaries rolling, stove cranking out the heat.
27 right now, let stove cool enough to clean it as next 4 days are going nowhere but down with a Friday high of negative single digits! Burning popular and soft maple!
