Had my fire 18 month and decided I wanted to give it a dam good clean and look inside my flue. Let her go cold last night ready for this mornings clean . Stripped the lot out fire cemented a cracked brick . Barely any spot inside my flue which I wasn't expecting Put her all back together and oiled fire and slate hearth . Even put my Christmas tree fan on top Couple of small kindling fires to set the cement ( how good it is time will tell ) with window and door open knowing the oil would smoke off . Time to fire her up on my free wood pour a coffee kick back knowing I can burn 24/7 safely while I have five days off . Stuff it gonna put new battery's in carbon monoxide detector while I'm at it .
Couldn't get battery out so googled it . Turns out it's a long life lithium , when it starts to go you replace the unit . Good enough for me

Read so many posts about you all cleaning yours I figured I would do the same . I burn nothing compared to you lot so I left it 18 month
Wish I saw this post earlier, it would've motivated me to give my chimney a quick sweep after letting the stove go colder than it has been all season. Scooped ash out only and said "eh maybe later..." Always good to clean out, repair, and have the peace of mind.
