Started the work day at 5am after getting an emergency call. Went to the emergency call 1.5 hrs away and did what we do and am now FINALLY at the shop Yes that’s how much coffee I’ve had... Morning all!!!
I was feeling pretty good this morning so we went for our walk. Overcast but frosty. We haven't gotten the snow that the lower part of the island got dumped with. I am hoping for a few flakes for Christmas morning but it doesn't look like it will happen. Off to work this morning for the second last day before Christmas break.
Oh man, we love that stuff! Put some down for 99 a couple years back (3-4?) and it is great! We got it from Menards (go figure, right?) and it was the lesser priced stuff but man, is it ever a breeze to work with! Just used a nice set of tin snips to trim it with. Absolutely no complaints with it at all!
Hey Warner , congrats on your little girl (we have 3 of 'em, and 3 granddaughters too). Nice to hear all's well.
Before the birth of our first grandchild 20 years ago, my son told me if it was a girl he was going to get a shotgun It turned out to be a girl but no shotgun. Congrats on the new girl. She is beautiful.
Just an FYI, my daughters 12 and starting to date, at some point you won't want to know or see her undergarments! I informed my wife I wont' argue or throw fits but I get an equivalent amount of money to spend on bullets AND I chose when I shoot and what targets look like! oh I have firing range in back yard! Also it' a great idea to have her take karate or whatever with her future dance classes ..
A few pics of some stumps. Making some good progress. A lot of little ones like this. This one was a P.I._. Lunchtime with my oldest daughter and my parents.
When you get a minute Gasifier can you give an estimate of time savings between excavator and backhoe? Does your backhoe have a thumb? or is it just time difference since you are behind schedule because of previous tractor issues. Meaning why you chose to rent excavator to finish job that tractor could have done.
This man hates stumps. I usually just cut them as close to the ground as possible and let nature take its course. Mini's are amazing for no bigger than they are.
Tractor/Backhoe does not have a thumb. I would say the mini is almost twice as fast. Several big differences. 1. Not having to get off the tractor and move to backhoe. Down and up, down and up. 2. More powerful digging. 3. Longer reach. 4. 360 degree swing. 5. Thumb. 6. Dozer blade right in front of you. (So I quickly realized the best thing to do is place dirt you have dug up right in front of your dozer blade. Then when stump is out you are ready to push forward and fill it in. Much faster than trying to swing your bucket and push piles in from the side.) One problem was getting use to the controls at the beginning. Found the pattern changer. But then realized I was now use to the way I started and would waist time getting use to the other!
I do plan on cutting some off like that as well. Especially in the wet areas. Cut them as flush as possible and that will be good enough. If they are very big the ground comes up quite a ways around them. Sometimes best to just go around them.
That's been my experience too. Probably even faster if you are digging something deep like footers, etc or working in hard/rocky soil.
