At my old house I had an insert and burned maybe a cord of wood a year. I have since sold that house gotten married and got a new house with another insert.. my wife and I plan to heat as much as we can with wood. He sister owns an 1800 acre farm about 30 min from us, her and he husband said we are more than welcome to come take wood from their woods!

So this is the first two loads that we have gotten. Not a lot but it’s all from trees that are already on the ground

fordguy64, 1800 acres, is your sister in law looking to adopt, I'm almost house broke and hopefully won't need diapers for another 25 years. Lol. Oh and a great score for wood and deer hunting.

If there are any standing trees with no bark. Take those first to use this year. And start stacking the rest for next.

Welcome fordguy64 .....you will never have a problem finding more wood than you will ever burn and never have to cut a green tree unless it's needed to be cleared for some reason.

Thanks guys! I’m excited to get hoarding! I should be making another trip out Friday morning.

I have read the primer on wood burning. I learned a few things and I’m sure I will continue to learn. I am breaking some rules by burning mostly wet wood. But I’ve been keeping the liner clean. I just brushed it after 3 weeks or so of burning. It had some creosote but nothing terrible. I plan to keep a very close eye on it throughout the burning season.

I sadly remember the time we had to do that but thank God for good chimney brushes. You'll be much happier next year.
