Low teens at the moment letting the coals burn down so I can shovel out the ashes. Then go back to mostly poplar.
Current temp -3°F only going down a few more degrees until sun-up. Stove loaded, house should stay in the low 70s overnight.
37 here in the city with no pity ... looks like a mid-dec thaw for a couple of days ... time to scoop out the ash
18 deg. Added some Elm & Basswood to the coals, Once she got going put the Cherry on top for the mornings heat. If anyone out there doesn't have a bellows to bring coals to with kindling, get one. You won't regret it.
Headed to 40's with heavy mist/fog blowing around. Bosswoman sent me home from the workhouse 'cause of my hacking cough and miserable disposition. Pile of Ash coals needing raked and burnt down in the OWB.
Anyone old enough to remember Johnny Carson and his "How XXX was it" routine..... Johnny Carson: It was really cold last night. Audience shouts: How cold was it. Johnny Carson: It was so cold we were throwing wood into the stove so fast, we almost got a pet! It warmed up a bit here into the high 20's overnight, going into the 30's today. I let the stove run out of fuel and cool down in preparation of modding the new radiator. Will post photos of that in the Ideal Steel thread. Man, central heat is just not making the trip. It is not 'cold' in the house but it is far from comfortable too. Brian
Nothing... Dec 18th and it was 57* today and tonights low 40's and tomorrow is 60*... Wont get "winter" again until next week when we get 30's for highs again.. Dont want to sweat tonight so the heat pumps get a small work out for once.
supposed to get down below zero by Christmas with single digit highs. After Christmas it starts getting cold with daytime temps below zero. We are still a long way from reaching record cold temps for the next week or so.
I had a fire going mid morning to mid afternoon. Comfy in here. Rainy but here’s the outlook for the next few days...not like we’re breaking records but that’s a pretty cold stretch around here. Definitely getting the heavyweights back in the bin soon.
57 now. Oak going in the stove. Maybe ash. Going to to dial in a long slow burn on the catalytic High Valley 2500. Probably open up a door or two to some colder rooms of the house to soak up extra heat
Current temp 17°F with 8" of fresh powder today and its still snowing. Temps expected to rise tomorrow with the chance of freezing rain transitioning to snow later.
38 °F now, burnin walnut in the box, , not much snow left now 1/2 to 2" , temps are supposed to rise overnight, High: 43 °F tomorrow
I have a feline wood inspector also, and he loves those bags, I have an extra one I fold in half and layout, that's where he spends most of his time laying right there while the stove is choochin
