Worked on a nice Scarlet Oak on Sunday afternoon. It was a nice day in the 60's.

The broken off and hung up tree in the background is a cherry, but it is a rotten mess. There is very little that is worth anything.

Got about two and a half truck loads hauled out.

I had to work fast to keep ahead of the GF.

    Ahhhhh, Oak.
    In the woods.
    Ahhh.
Thanks for that. Reminds me how much I want to get in the woods and get some cutting done.
    Nice that your GF assists.

You can't see it but there is a pond between the woods and the field in the first picture. I took a break between loads and enjoyed watching a group of black ducks and some buffleheads swimming around.

There were also 4 longbeards in the field when I drove in. They ran to the edge of the woods. Every time I came or went they were back out in the field and ran to the woods edge. Looks like a good place to score when the season comes in.

I hate stacking, she likes stacking, perfect.

Very nice. I have a scarlet oak to cut first this spring. Looks like your splitting these on the smaller side?

Papadave said it a lot better than I could… it's so nice to see pics of your oak FF. All of it… keep em coming. And that GF of yours… a keeper for sure. I love it when my wife decides to stack wood with me, cause I know she just wants to shoot the breeze. Not bad after 38 years… :)

When foragefarmer post pics all I do is look for his truck. That Toyota is built to get work done. Very nice

My fiancé just started stacking wood since we got together and I have been doing it for 30 plus years. She is a better stacker than me which is great because I can't stand to stack either.

I'm prolly numb'r than a stump… but since I've decided to just slow down a bit, I've gotten so I like all of the wood process now… except dealing with ticks and yellow jackets… :axe:

I'm going to shower in bug dope with DEET this year. Had 3 ticks get on me last year. All wood ticks. But, we have a path that deer are on all the time so…
Worst thing about deer ticks is they're so dam small that it's really hard to know if you got one on ya until it gets infected, which I REALLY want to avoid if possible. And, I don't like having all that bug dope on all the time but, it works. We've got too many examples of friends who're going thru h*ll with lyme disease.

I got a couple chigger bites on my ankle a few days ago. I thought it was kind of crazy for as cold as it has been.

Question for you....I have never had much oak in all the years I have been burning except for the last few. I can tell the difference in white oak and red oak naturally very easy but is there much difference in the look of scarlet oak because your pics look similar to red. Talking the wood and bark, not the leaves and such.

Not much difference in the look between say northern red and scarlet. The give away is the bulbous base of the trunk on scarlet trees. You can't really see it in the first pic because of the broken trunk in the way.
