Yes it's cold here, but it's the wind that gets me! Time For Drastic Measures!!

Admittedly, I don't know what those measures are:emb:...But It Will Start With...turning the thermostat down!!...

Got. To. Get. These. Coals. Burned. Down!:startled:
...and more wood in the stove!:dex:

I put plastic on our downstairs windows for the dead of winter, otherwise one side is roasting and the other is cold sitting by the stove

Tim, do you know any different tricks for burning coals down in the IS? With the Fireview, when the stovetop gets to around 300-350 and lots of coals, we simply open the draft full.

Right where I want to be.
Been fighting that the last 3 days.
Opening the air fully doesn't provide enough heat, even with the stove almost full of coals, so I had to pull some coals out to make room for wood. :(

Just add a LITTLE air from the bottom. Some of us have been cracking the ash pan door ever so slightly. I believe BDF (or Hollywood) added a hole with an adjustable cover plate to the ash pan door. When doing this I end up turning the air down a little bit to compensate, unless there are only coals to burn down - then it is wide open (the air inlet, not the ash pan door).

The older I get the less I suffer from Furnaphobia !
Normally when it gets below 20-25 I fire up the wood furnace and shut down the shoulder stove. This year I'm running the shoulder till I'm out of wood for it and letting the 'pane kick in when necessary . My work schedule and taking care of the old man warrant it.
I'll fire the big guns by mid January for sure .

Living in a mobile home, I can't totally get away without the furnace. Maybe if winter was only -2o C I could, but that's not gonna happen here. As long as the wood stove does the heavy lifting, and the oil furnace helps out now and then I'm okay with that.

I do. But it's highly NOT recommended by the manufacturer.
So I open the air and sometimes crack the door open to the first latch, leaving a 1/2 gap around the door.

I have a second stove, which was also my first stove, sitting in the basement. But it would require a second flue. And hearth and dragging wood through the house over light colored wall to wall carpet...

I see Coach Schaller touched on the highly NOT recommended idea.

On the topic of 2nd stove, the temp here has been hovering in the low single digits with a wicked NW wind all day. Fired up li' brother this afternoon as it is supposed to dive well below "O" tonight. Now a toasty 74 throughout the cave.............AWESOME !!

After further investigation:sherlock:, I think I figured out what happened. I found the tstat was turned up.
From what I understand, it seems Ruger got up early for work and the house was 64* so he turned up the tstat to warm the house up a few degrees. Then forgot to turn the stat back down before he left for work.:zip:

Grrr.. just got home from an 11 hour shift and I immediately hear the oak on my boiler sucking air.
Ok, maybe someone is in the shower? A load of laundry?
Nope the stove is OUT! :bug:It’s 16 degrees out!

I expected it as the wife is about ready to pop she has dropped the stove from her radar. Luckily the beer fridge is close to the stove:D I’ll get er going!
