Bad crime wave in Arkansas/Oklahoma area

I hope you guys from the Arkansas River valley and surrounding areas will read this.
A friend of mine who reported a theft to the local Sheriff was warned to lock everything up tightly. There seem to be a lot of thefts reported lately by thieves who don't just go for valuables but take anything they can get their hands on. They go also into remote areas. So please heed the warning.

 

You got that right. My dogs let me know when something is going on. However, i don't want them in the middle of anything so i close their door and get my gun. My dogs are fast but my bullets are decidedly faster and i just love moving target practice don't you?

 

I don't believe in calling 9-1-1. Mainly because I have a friend with a 1 acre, 20' deep liquid manure pit.

 

Truthfully 9-1-1 is pretty useless out here. By the time anybody shows up it's all over.

But jokes aside, these guys here sound pretty bad. They don't seem to care if somebody is home or not. They go in even when the lights are on.

 

Simple principle, if they come in vertical, they are going out horizontal.................just make sure the entry wounds aren't in their backs.

 

What do you guys do in Canada? The laws here are so bizarre that the burglars can sue you if they hurt themselves while robbing you blind.

 

I got a Ring Video recorder, it alerts me when there is movement and I can see what’s going on when I’m not home. I installed one a a coworker’s house. Someone was walking around her house suspiciously during the day and she was able to show it to the police.

 

I'm thinking of setting something up here. We have it at the house in town, i can keep an eye on it from out here. Problem here is the distances. Such a long way to the gate at the street or to the trail at the other side. Had some b.... stack some trash at our gate a couple of nights ago. The fools left some address stickers in it.

 

Yep, toopid.

 

I've heard all about the different styles of exterior protection. Me personally I have a hybrid configuration. The backyard is mowed low so I have clear sight lines. The front yard that is close to the street has overgrown shrubs and abbreviates. The east side of the house is overgrown grass. Plenty of hidden obstacles in their way. To the west only 25' is my dad's place. He has plenty of armaments.

Police in our town are never that far away, but even still most altercations will not be long enough for them to get here. I fully support our local and state police. However; there is only so much you can count on them to do.

As the Boy Scouts Motto says, "Be Prepared." For what you ask? For anything.

 

I am not in that area, but lots of stuff goes on that I don't want around me. I also have a couple of video surveillance systems. Ring being one. Blink another. Plus I put signs our saying that the property is monitored, inside and out. Everything is wireless and goes to cloud. They can't get to it before their pictures are sent. Plus I have two big dogs. I don't own guns. I have PTSD so I stay away from guns. We have not been intruded upon for a very long time. I think the intruded will pick on others who are easier targets. At least that is what the law has told me.

 

I'm so far away from the hwy here that only the neighbors know we are here. I don't even have a mailbox. As far as by-passers know the entrance is just a cattle gate. Posting here would have the opposite effect. We haven't had any trouble, some of the neighbors have. However the problems the neighbors had was by people who had been to their property and knew what they had and when they wouldn't be there.
What worries me is that one of our neighbors has lost some of his cattle and they assume it was stolen. His pastures run along our property on two sides. A few years ago one of the ranchers lost his son when he walked in on some guys slaughtering his cattle on his own pasture. They shot him. Some of these guys really are dangerous.

 

Where im at in far-nor-cal it's meth land as well as pot grows all summer into the fall. Most the pot guys are fine, but the meth head's and heroin guys will steal ANYTHING. I mean garden hoses, electric cords. I keep all my stuff obsessively locked. Buy hey haven't had any issues. I hope it gets better. About ten years ago it got bad and hasn't improved much.

 

I did it the traditional way the last time we were broken into. That was a joke..............................When and if it happens again I intend to handle it my way and really won't have a lot to talk about. Being a transplanted yankee redneck, I have a different view on how this type of thing should be handled, as opposed to MOST born & bred Canadians. I do have a circle of like-minded Canadian friends in the immediate area though. We have divised our own "Neighborhood Watch" program in this area.

 

All the more reason for Fentanyl dispensers on every corner...................
