I just finished splitting and stacking the maple from the tree I had cut down... I had to find a new place to start stacking as I'm pretty full up with my normal stacking areas. Here's the latest maple addition, all cut to around 20", 18 feet long, 5 feet tall. Hope it doesn't tip over.... Feels good to have it done. Hope everyone has a great Christmas! Here's a few more of some of the stacks.. Little bit of everything in there, mostly cut to 20" or so. This is the wood I'm burning right now, also have a rack inside the building that I feed the stove with.
Very nice fanatical makes my hoarders hart beating faster, i still have a long way to go for such a nice suply! Keep at it and keep warm this winter. Have a nice day
Great looking stacks there, congrats on getting it all cut up and stacked! I know that feeling of all those rounds just looming over you. I hope you have a Merry Christmas as well.
Love me some maple... Its probably my favorite... I know most serious guys would laugh, but it seasons quick and in my cat stove I can get some pretty long burns put of it, and its clean when in the house! Only other wood I hold in higher regard is some good old beech.
Thanks everyone... I know many of you have much more wood than me, but to my way of thinking we all like the stack pictures, so I posted a few. No wood boiler, just an indoor stove. I like maple too! I swear this was a red maple because of the leaf, but the wood was all stringy and twisted and very difficult to split almost like an elm. I've cut sugar that was stringy but not red maple which was always pretty straight grained. The guy who cut it said it was a water maple. Never heard of that before. Looking forward to burning it a a few years to see what I have. Merry Christmas everyone.
Thanks for the pics - looking good! I have split a bunch of maple of all sorts, nd have bumped into some stringy red maple. Yard trees can be funny animals - maybe you have one here? Start adding wind into the growing conditions and anything can get funny on ya. The red maple I'm thinking of came from my grandfather's place - a three stemmed monster that grew adjacent to a big open area that used to be farm land.. Tons of figure in that wood, and some that split like the inside of a milk weed pod.
That's very interesting Bigpapi... This tree was off on its own without a bunch of competing trees with 5 big trunks. I suspect you could be right. I just never had a red maple that stringy before.... It would have been very difficult to split without hydraulics.... Didn't see any curl on this one, and I pay attention for curl and Birdseye with my maples! Had the Pro's Cut one Down....
