lol I just came downstairs and was bitching to myself about how cold the house is at 69 degrees. My how perspectives change. Last year it would have been 64-65, and I would have turned it up to 68.

    Info:
Thats the view from my roof this morning, we had a little snow, pretty much melted by now.
Those little Cabines belong to an Allotment Club, can you spot the Stars and Stripes?
In the background: Fields (Corn,Wheat and Rye), meadows (mostly holsteins, some highlanders)
and Old Oak trees guarding the whole thing (i guess most of them are like 150-200years old).

About 25 when I got up at 0600, let the fire go out last night because I was putting the Christmas village up on the mantle and didn’t feel like sweating my azz off working over top the stove. Loaded the Napoleon up with all American elm this morning and was happy. First time burning elm and I really like it, decent heat and it seems to get the secondaries rolling better than most other wood I’ve burned. Been 100% ash the last few years, this year I have a pretty even mix of ash, elm and red maple to burn. Oh and it’s 74 in the House and the coffee is flowing.

Started a fire at about 545 this morning. It was 64°, not bad for having just a few splits of maple before bed around 1030. Alder is popular right now. 28 ° outside. Fog has diminished a lot. I can see Mt Rainier today, nice sunrise.
Now just slight fire with licking flames. Gonna let that be as I’ll be home most of today anyways. Maybe when it’s more light out, I’ll carry some more wood in for the bin. The cedar just smells amazing at this time of the year, if I split it, the smell is intoxicating opening the bin in the morning. Not a bad way to wake up and start a fire.

    Got down to 20.1 °F
Restarted the fire with alligator juniper, plenty of coals for an easy relight, then threw in some honey locust to heat the house up.

I finally took a look at where you're located. I spent an entire summer when I was 17 in Itzehoe, in Schleswig- Holstein, and then zinnowitz in Mecklenburg-vorpommern Germany.

Ahhh good times. I found the trabant toy car I brought back from that summer just recently.

Elm is really good stuff. I love how it rolls the secondaries too. Crazy ghost flames from elm.

Itzehoe aint far, like 20min on the A23 up north. Mecklenburg Vorpommern is a nice place also - if youre into agriculture, logging and hunting. I remember seeing them on the autobahn when i was a kid, the wall just came down. me and my wee brother started shoutin "Trabi" which is the nickname for trabant.

I know not what the wife has in the stove but it feels great!

Finally have a decent snow cover and snow on the trees. Some falling but most will wait for a breeze. I hope that holds off. Don't like wind, especially in winter.

I been burning 4 year oak and cherry the last few days. Talking about some heat on the oak. I wondered how big a difference I'd see vs 2 year oak and it's quite noticeable. I've had to crack a window now and then:D

I hear ye, winter overhere is always wet and windy - we call it creeping cold. I had a co-worker from russia. he said hed prefer the sibirian winters to ours here. i reckon that says it all.

Yes, the trabi. 500 cc fan cooled twin 2 stroke ( zwei-tackt) that doesn't even have oil injection. I could have traded a pair of Levi jeans for a trabi. The logistics of getting that back to the states would've been hellish.

My grandpa came straight to the USA from Mecklenburg- vorpommern when he was 16.
