    Pine uglies right now. Man they burn hot and fast after sitting around for a couple years. Probably maple uglies over night. I hate burning uglies over night, as on rare occasion a piece might topple off the pile and block the fan, but I'm determined to get them all burnt this year. I'm going to have a ton of cutoffs with the pine I'll process in spring, and don't really want to add to what I've already got!

    Yeah, but there was never a freeze up since on Monday it was in the 50's! Trails in the woods are full of water.

    19° outside. After work I put in 3 decent sized beech splits. Choochin'!!! And clean glass from the beech half load, after sporadic fires.

    The furnace has been quiet, and all the garland is hung up and lit with lights. No more bandages needed for the wife.:whistle::yes:

    30° and clear as a bell. Supposed to drop to 27° but likely will be more. The next few days are the same. Its been really foggy, especially today. It rolled in and hardly left. Thick. Finally it left but mostly since the temps and humidity become equally stable. Burning some alder and a plum round.
    Nice and comfortable 76 inside. Py is liking it. image.jpg

    Your fortunate. Right now it's +32°F and RAINING :#(
    Yuk.
    I moved away from Southeast to avoid this !!
    The Mentasta mountains protect you guys from these warm fronts that come in from the coast.
    Poplar in the stove and corked off pretty snug.
    The only thing this warm weather does for us is conserve wood.

    18 feels like 3 now with snow expected (duh?).

    Last nights snow must have stopped shortly after went to bed...(Thank You!)

    Looks like extended has some nice mild days in store for us..upper teens to low 20's for highs.

    Fog thicker than a hares coat. Kindling fire taking off. Not sure what to load up with yet. I went to bed without a reload. The house is at 58. Well it’ll be warm soon enough.

    Edit I went outside to do work: I love working when its frosty out and Ive had my share of the warm stove. So here’s how we’re looking.     about 30.. spitting snow.. loaded her up with a mix (same mix all winter here) house still nice after 18 hours so it works:D birch ash beech cherry elm.. we are in constant slow burn mode.. have not used a match in weeks.. its easy this way need heat add wood! highs for next week are below freezing so waiting on Snow!

    Sitting at -4 C feels -8 C (25 F feels 17 F) and heading for a few degrees below freezing for a high today. Poplar kindling fire chasing the chill away. I think I have some venison meatloaf destined for the charcoal grill this afternoon seeing we have this warm up.:grizz:

    Kinda nice to be able to do that! I can go 24 hours without striking a match with the IS in my setup as long as temps stay mid teens or warmer. I just close the stove up in the morning as I don't need heat while were at work (house holds the warmth well). Get home after work stir up the coals and let em get good and hot and add a couple splits till it gets rolling. Then load it up for overnight.

    I will admit that the NG furnace gets the house back up to temp (to 68-69ish) from a set back temp, in the evening before we arive home. House temp usually only drops to about 67 so the furnace only runs for maybe 30 mins. The stove kicks it up to 72-73 for the overnight. Then coasts from there till the next evening.

    Some things are best left out in the wind for others to argue about. Most folks can somewhat control the humidity in their homes but not everyone tries. One does not have to be scientific about it all; just keep a decent humidity level. But if someone starts bleeding from the nose, then for sure it is low.

    Humidifiers can work well but those we've tried we did not like and the air ended up feeling damp and cold and over time they can also begin to smell if not regularly cleaned. Doing laundry and using the wood stove for drying really can work wonders for raising the humidity.

    And yes, the higher one keeps the indoor temperature in winter, the more one needs to replace some of that water in the air. But all in all, we just do not have a problem with it and there is no way I will live in my home and have to wear winter clothing as if I'm going outdoors in order to stay warm. I also despise having to go somewhere to find they heat with wood and their house is cold. There just is no good sense to that. If you wish to live in a tent, then pitch one in your yard and live in that.

    Sconnie Burner yup 24 hours even 36 is doable without match.. But the house gets cool.. backup furnace is not on yet so we just fill it.. The house is a split levels center stairway but if living stove room is 80 kitchen is 70 and bedrooms are 65 for me that' purrfect!
