I have read that the rev limiter caps need to be remove to properly tune a saw after a muffler mod. Some say just remove and others say remove, cut tab and re-install to keep the idles from working their way out when running the saw.

Do the caps need to be re-installed or is it ok to leave them out?

I pulled the high cap on my 260 Pro but I didn't notice any tab to cut off.

There was no cap on the low side so likely previously removed.

They are the jet settings for the carb.
Caps can stay off, keeping them on without tabs allow for a guide for the screwdriver to find the tiny slot easier.

Definitely a must to do something with the caps or screw stops after mods. Weather you have to cut a tab or remove them completely is up to you. The main reason is to be able to turn the carb screws more than the 1/4 turn the stops limit you to. In my opinion if you can modify the caps/screws to turn freely and still keep any sort of guide to make putting the screwdriver in easier as well as keeping any type of screw holding device in place like a spring for example.
