My oldest and I got some wood today. Tommy did most of the driving. We had one river to cross. T is 9, his mom is a trooper, she let a 9 year old go wood cutting at -20*. He made and broke trail to each tree. Then he skinned all the lower limbs and knocked the tree to get as much snow to fall. We had a safety meeting before we started. Takes about The the ax and saw, showed him the falling site. We talked about felling, and we did well he enjoyed lining the up for the fell.

I like that type of hoarding. I use a sled behind the ATV so long as we don't get a ton of snow, our I can't clear a path well enough.

Got to hand it to both of you - 20° is to cold for me. My firewood gathering would consist of putting another log on the fire.

I can’t wait for the perfect day. I do what needs to be done when I have off. Today was wood day. Tomorrow is moose hunting with a different son. Then back to the grind.

    Now yer Loggin !!!
    Looks Great !
Nice jag of wood you got there too. !

I've got a few more days of helping a friend with an unrelated chore. Then I'll be back to bringing home wood again. I have a pretty easy pie place to get this winters wood. Broke trail into it today. If we get too much snow, I'll tram the dozer down and plow out so I can get my pickup to the bunches.

That's what I'm waiting to see around here, temps. have been all over the place with the crazy weather. yesterdays low 11 f. This morning 40 f. We're not making ice that way. My sled has a bad primary, looking for a used one to put in so it will be ready to go. Keep those pics of your boy out there doing what boys should be doing coming. Good luck with the Moose hunt! I love the meat, one of my favorite.

Definitely the cold makes things different but one adapts. Good on you Tom for teaching that boy right.

You dress right for the cold. Firewooding, hunting or skiing.
I used to enjoy the challenge when I was younger.

Now, not so much. If I could afford to spend the Winter in Phoenix I would be.

It’s impressive that a youngster is out working hard. He will have the knowledge and grit to be a man someday.
    It’s becoming rare.

The 600 ace 4stroke version of your skandic would get a lot more mpg than the fan cooled 550. Now, being a 4 stroke there's the own issues, vs a 2 stroke. I know the ace 600 has no recoil backup to start it.

Great pics and nice work with the boy, Rope. The men and women on this board, and a couple acquaintances here give me hope for the next generation with the way they (we) are bringing up their children.

At 16, my oldest daughter has more real life skills than most of the "men" out there nowadays.

Well, at -20, the splitting should be fairly easy!
