This hasn't been publicized too much but wanted to let everyone know. Kidde has a major recall on most all of their fire extinguishers. Ones effected were made between 1973 to 2017. The ones with the plastic handles. You can go to their website and plug in your numbers as you don't need a receipt. If it falls into the recall the SEND you a replace in 10 - 15 days. I had 3 and went through the process and it was easy. We all should have them in our vehicles so check to see if you can get a new replacement. Kevin in Ohio thanks for the info! I now have 4 replacements coming The website application is a pain to complete. Tough to get it to accept serial #. Worked on 2 of the extinguishers. Called the number listed and it was much easier. Got the first replacement yesterday
Grizzly Adam i was thinking of cutting top off and making giant wind chimes out if them. Question after you relived the pressure by squirting extinguisher Did you just unscrew top or just cut it? The replacement extinguisher came with a shipping label and a note to ship it back. I guess I could still keep it. But don't know
I used an abbrasive cutter to chop it. Also, on a side note, the extinguisher worked fine when I discharged it.
Thanks for the info The cheap side of me says to keep the old ones and use them as well as the replacements Bet they would all work fine But I'd like to try and make something out of them also Will use grinder with cutoff wheel or bandsaw to cut Thanks
I have a couple of Kidde extinguishers that I have set aside for future disposal. I would never use those at work. I have over 100 extinguishers in my workplace and they are all Badger or Amerex #10 ABC units. Monthly checks and annual service.

Hmm, that reminds me, I filled out the online form for replacing one at least 6 weeks ago...have not seen a new one yet...seems like maybe this needs a follow up...
Yeah, it does say that—Just seems very strange that a 44 year old product would be eligible for recall or still in use. I was just wondering if they made a typo.
I think it's safe to say there were lawyers involved and they were mandated to do so. Incredible cost involved and I'm surprised they could stay afloat.
