I think that is Honey Locust, which is a common shade tree planted all over the country. I have lots of Red Oak and Black Cherry too, but this looks like Honey Locust. The wide light-colored sapwood is typical of Honey Locust. Very good firewood.
Well, cherry doesn't have that white outer layer. It looks more like honey locust. It's great firewood. I'll be burning a lot of it next winter or so, and I'll be very thankful for it. Now, this is a wood you'll want to save for very cold temperatures.
Locust. Great wood for burning. Bark is wrong for oak, and oak isn't so red orange yellow like locust. Finally... Oak has a smell when it's fresh that is just as distinctive as pine or cedar or apple, you know it can't be anything else
