Went out to dust off the climbing tools today and found a dead cherry crossing a maple creating some problems for the maple. Why not take it out from the top down? Set a couple ropes and play a little The pleasant surprise was that only the outer inch or so was punk the rest was solid cherry! Still have to drop the last 15’ of stump... Stay tuned....
It’s been raining all morning and was still sprinkling, but it was eating at me so the little guy and I took the tractor out and picked up the btus
Looks Great. You guys with true hardwoods have the best trees for rope climbing. Shoot a line up a tree and your off. Most trees here are too bushy for rope climbing from the ground. You have a nice looking set up there. My last saddle saw was a 339 Husky. Its in pieces on the bench . oiler went out and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get at the oiler. That little Echo is a nice looking saw. I used to use the Buckingham spurs with Ulven cast foam lined pads. But they always rubbed me raw on the shins. Now I use Klein and Bashlin spurs with Big Buck double strap pads. They feel like my legs are resting on pillows. Very comfortable. What boots do you wear in the spurs ?? Is that a Farmall Cub tractor ?
Thanks! That’s my little Echo 330t took a bit of work to wake it up! As far as the pads I heard great things about the cast ones so I got a pair and hate them, they do just what you say rub like crazy! As far as boots I’ve got a couple different kinds but right now my favorites are my Hoffman’s 10" Insulated Dri-Line Leather Lineman Boots - Hoffman Boots - For all your Boot Needs and Halls Hall's 368W 10" Waterproof Insulated Composite Toe Patch Lineman Boot - Hall's Safety Equipment | 1-800-227-4255 are a close second. The tractor is a 1952 Super C although I do have a few others including a cub.
Its funny how some things shrink as we get older. Our nextdoor neighbor growing up was a cattle dealer that was revitalizing an Old homestead farm. He had a Super C. I worked for him a lot in the woods and on the farm. Farm tractor logging. The Super C always did good work . and a lot of work. I just remember it being bigger .
These are what I use now. Big Bucks. I made my own straps . super comfortable I've spent over 7 hours a day in these and they were just as comfortable at quitting time as when I put them on . I can't for the life of me understand why they call those cast aluminum pads , the Caddilac of pads. I was driving a 1971 Mack dump truck this fall that was 100 times more comfortable than those pads. And I used them on different sets of spurs for almost 2 decades at different times. Probably one reason my knees don't work very good now
As much pain as they caused me , it's hard to understand why I climbed in them for so long. Eventually I made a pair of swivel pads on my replaceable Buckingham spurs from coffee cans and glued the foam pads inside them. Much more comfortable. But, when I went to Klein spurs my comfort level went way up. Even with the T leather pads. Then I put the Big Bucks on and it was Good times. For some reason the Klein stirrup, gaff and leg iron are just right for me . Bashlin Aluminum with tree gaffs are too. I wear the Bashlins on poplar and cottonwood and the Klein's on spruce . Klein gaffs have a much smaller width profile than the Bashlin and sink into the tree too far. Have to work hard to get them out of the tree.
First tractor I ever drove was my great gramps Farmall 230 pretty much a super c with a few updates. He worked the snot out of that thing and so did I it just kept on going! It did seem a lot bigger though years ago
It might be interesting to know what the first tractor was that people drove. Mine was a John Deere H.
This sounds as good of a place as any! Or maybe I'll start one in the power forum. Yeah. That sounds good.
