Can’t get over the fact that these folks think somebody is going to pay them $600-$700 to take away wood when you can buy a seasoned cord, delivered for $250

Can you get me the contact info? I think it’d be worth it for me to drive from WNY to grab that load :wacky::hair::loco: :picard:

Truly is amazing what some think as to fair price

What is that? Pine? Most of it looks like it.

Heck, you might have to pay me to take that, like $1, just to prove a point.

I answered a CL ad. a number of years ago for 2 cord of hardwood, in Breckenridge. Too good to be true. Had a few e-mail exchanges with the advertiser. No cash, it was free just to clear out the yard, - but, a pole dance was more than welcome. Uhmmm.. thought it was a joke, but it wasn't, the guy wanted me to do a pole dance in exchange for the wood. Our exchange got a bit terse after that.

So when I showed up, it turned out to be cottonwood and pine, barely a couple face cord. Well! that deal was off, let me tell you!! Some peoples kids. ;)

I think they have caught on to our hoarding craze. They just don't realize it has to be nearly free to be cost effective. I see adds all the time: Come pay me $x amount to cut down my tree, do the dirty work, oh and take the branches with you.:hair: Are they figgin nutz!?!?

If its free I will pile the branches where they want them, within reason of course, and rake the felling site if they have a fairly nice clean yard before I got there.

Saw a local add for a down red oak, started at $115 a cord to come cut it up, now they are down to $75 a cord, and it's still available.

I see “firewood” ads all the time and it’s a pile of sticks. I almost want to message them to inform them how ridiculous their request is

Some people live in an alternate universe. I don't know how they manage to live through the day with all the real life contradictions around them.

Before I started burning for heat, I had a huge silver maple cut down at great expense due to its location and size. To recoup some of the cash, I got a maul and some wedges and split the bastard. I stacked it, covered it, let it sit over the winter till the next fall, and sold it. I helped to deliver and stack, and sold a "cord" that was actually 4x5x8. One guy and his son took it all (three cord I think) after seeing what I called a cord, and seeing me at $25 cheaper than going rate. I got exactly what I wanted, he got more than he wanted, and I even got a call the next year to see if I had more.

It is possible to be a newb and do it right. Can't see why it's so hard for some people.

I saw an ad on Facebook about a year ago, 3 big pieces, 2 big, probably 30" across and a big crotch piece, total twisted mess, sitting on the curb in the picture. They wanted $75 for the big crotch piece and $50 for the stump pieces. I messaged the lady and asked, just to be sure, if they wanted to sell or pay to get rid of the wood, she replied they wanted to sell it, I told her that nobody will take it, not in 100 years. To which she replied, I know what it's worth and there's a ton of wood there, mind your own business. I chuckled to myself, replied good luck and to take the first offer to get rid of it that she has. Minded my own after that, and wouldn't you know it, guess what I saw about a month ago, posted for, can you guess? FREE!

Oh I've totally replied to, and removed trees like that. I've even been paid to do so after they realize nobody is going to show up and do it for free. But the ad I posted with them wanting proof of insurance yada... yada... not worth even asking because they are stubborn in addition to clueless.:headbang:

I went to check this one out. The birch was totally punky, except for a few rounds near the base. I politely explained that the punky wood had little or no heating value, but they responded that someone might want it for "crafts".

We recently had to cut down three tall and large White Birch Trees. The trees have been cut up into smaller log pieces and ready to be hauled away. Please take a look at the images or contract us for more information. Thanks

I had a deal like that this fall, but it was regarding "free lambs". I am all up for free lambs, some people cannot kill them, but I sure can.

So these (7) free sheep ($500) turned into a well "for free" to paint my sheep shed. Okay, that is not too bad, how long could it take to paint a 20 x 12 sheep shed? I got a sprayer, do the woman a favor and still end up with some lambs to flip for easy cash. But when we went for that she insisted we clean out her shed too of manure. Again, no big deal, she is 70 years old, I am 43 and I have a tractor...but the deal killer was how she talked to Katie.

She wanted her shed cleaned out of manure, painted, and then a trench dug with our backhoe for power and water. That was fine, but as Katie was trying to explain our backhoe is not an excavator and very limited where it can reach and where it can go, the woman was treating her like a child, "Oh no, I know you have a back hoe, don't tell me you don't because I have seen it. I know you have one..." talking to Katie in a belittling, childish voice. It was not that we don't, it is just that it is very limited. Better than a shovel...but anyway, fooey with her. It was not worth it for (7) lambs.

This weekend I saw an excavator up there with a guy doing the job for her. No shed painting or manure being cleaned out...

This is our "backhoe" which works well for small projects, but is different, which is what Katie was trying to explain. Fooey with her!

I get quite a few calls from people offering free wood if I remove it for them for free I can have all that valuable wood. I always try to respectfully explain that the wood from a yard tree isn’t worth anything. The cost of firewood is really in labor. Even with free wood it doesn’t pay well.

Yeah I posted on a local Facebook page that I am always looking for trees to take for firewood.
I got one a little ways away, offering money to take the tree.
Turned out it was two trees, hanging over the house.
Sorry, not going there, if it takes a ladder or climbing, hire a professional, I don't need firewood that badly

There's a guy close to me offering up a free large branch from the storm. Just needs to be cut up.

Then further down the add.... Oh yeah, you'll need to pull it off the power lines first. :salute:
